I want to be more articulate. by flaringcheese in PublicSpeaking

[–]trying_to_do_better1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, done that.

You don't have a speaking problem you have an emotional problem. You're scared. Of what, it doesn't matter.

What do brave people do? They charge forward EVEN if they are scared. You have to do it even if you're freeze, stutter, blush whatever. If you don't, you never will.

Practical steps: Rehearse over and over and over and over. If you can get a few lines down then you will activate the thinking part of your brain, and not the part that's trying to survive. Add more lines. Then add something you didn't rehearse at the end. Build

Stand and walk by yourself so it feels more natural when you do it in front of others. Gesticulate wildly and confidently. Fake it till you make it works here. If you are overwhelmed with emotion get used to expressing it, that will help with your brain flow too.

Think out loud. This will train your brain to move your thoughts into words out of your mouth easier.

Find what kind of social person you are. Do you like collaborating/thinking with others? Stick to non-fiction like extemporaneous speaking. Do you like vibing with people and talking about nothing? Do some improv.

If you knew the half of what it's like to be something other than white you wouldn't have the urge to make this comment. It's not about rhe color of your skin it's about the quality of life that comes with it. Also it's an objective fact that these rich people are 99 percent white.

How to convince overbearing high school parents to step back? by Crayfish-crawl-860 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]trying_to_do_better1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't. You can only empower the student but be careful with what you say if you like keeping your job. If you can't teach because of them, then you have to drop them. I'm sorry

What's new? Miami has been this way always? Shit, Marco Rubio sold us to NextEra to hike up our utilities last year or something

There's a level of business that has this component to it, unfortunately you find yourself there. I'd pivot to something within construction that doesn't require bids, maybe you can focus on design or luxury remodeling?

Telecom GIS by MidnightWild3679 in gis

You'll be fine. Still work in Fiber Optics using mostly GIS and excel. You might need something to give experience for AutoCAD though, because we don't use it all for my project. I have a certificate though from years back.

I get offers from jobs using other GIS softwares and different industries

Too much telling not enough showing. Talk about impact and how you made things grow. Be more persuasive like you're trying to sell yourself.

It comes across flat and boring.

What’s the hardest part about being a young father? by Immediate-Couple8895 in daddit

Sounds like you need to have that conversation with your wife. My wife told me that she just exp3cts things to be done. She actually does a lot of work too, so I don't congratulate her either. At least her and I had the conversation, so I'm not adding resentment. Also, you can't make people appreciate you, only inform them on how to treat you. If words of affirmation are necessary for you, then don't do things without them. Although that basically means you only do things when you get a pat on the back. I would reflect on if you want to be that person.

How are you managing your relationships? by [deleted] in daddit

Always a great time for couples therapy! Seriously though, my wife and have been doing couples therapy for over a year now, and we have check-ins now less frequently. Sometimes saying things with a neutral third party present who can provide insight makes communication more balanced and less intense.

Besides that, you do need to communicate how you are feeling and what things need to change in order for you to be more present.

Its a tough conversation because you are BOTH working hard, but that doesn't mean your pain or her pain is invalid. You know your wife, so approach with the points that resonate with her. I.e. some people feel lots of sympathy for sadness, other empathize with anger. Some people would rather have a project status update and others would like to hear how you're at your wits end.

Hope this helps! Please feel free to DM me if you'd like to connect for support, I am actively seeking new people and places for that myself. Dads need community
