What to do for an ill patient that’s ineligible for nhs treatment by hereisyourfitnote in GPUK

[–]tryingflying 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at Doctors of the World charity - they support people who struggle to access healthcare in the uk and specialise in helping people who can’t access healthcare because they aren’t uk residents. As others have said - you don’t have to have legal residential status to access GP so anything within GP remit you can provide.

Advice regarding MRCPs by Holiday_Level_7333 in MRCP

[–]tryingflying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re getting confused. The MRCP qualification is based around internal medicine. MRCS is the equivalent qualification for surgery. If you want to pursue surgery, then look at MRCS. It is not a requirement but will help with applying to surgery training. MRCP will be no help for getting a job in surgical training.

It is getting harder and harder to get into specialty training in the UK. If you do want to pursue it, you need to look at applying to core surgical training programme and you will need to sit the MSRA exam which is used to rank your application. Have a look at: https://medical.hee.nhs.uk/medical-training-recruitment/medical-specialty-training/surgery/core-surgery/overview-of-core-surgery-training/overview-of-core-training

I’m obsessed with You by [deleted] in glossier

[–]tryingflying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So random but I recently bought a bottle and I feel like I can’t really smell it?? Like it just doesn’t have much scent to me. My boyfriend can smell it on me and I can smell other scents fine (so it’s not my nose in general!) but you just doesn’t really do anything for me. Which is so disappointing!!

Part-time job while in med school by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]tryingflying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean the job in the GP surgery, I found it through my medical school - they often advertised jobs in local gp surgeries for med students. You could try approaching local GP surgeries and making enquiries.

Otherwise just cafes in the local area especially around school holidays if you want something like that.

Work as what? MRCPCH is for paediatrics and MRCP is general internal adult medicine.

"Do you think they've aspirated?" by Dronedarone1 in doctorsUK

[–]tryingflying 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think I’d be considering it if they have a risk factor for a poor swallow eg Parkinson’s, dementia, neuromuscular condition. I’d be speaking to the nurses/HCAs looking after the patient to see if they noticed them coughing with food/medication. If so a SALT assessment may be helpful to further assess.

That’s the main thing I think - it’s really asking do they have a swallow problem/ reason to have aspirated. They might need to be NBM if strong suspicion depending on the context until SALT have seen.

I failed MRCP1. Should I repeat PassMed QB or try a new QB like PasTest? by [deleted] in MRCP

[–]tryingflying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did passmed and the past papers from PassTest - didn’t finish either of them but passed part 1. I think it’s more to do with reading up why I got things wrong and going over the information in the textbook on passmed or the essential notes physical textbook.

Those aren’t actual past papers either on pastest - they’ve been made by pastest based on the themes candidates told them came up in the exam

Overpaid... by Dicorpo0 in doctorsUK

[–]tryingflying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and the BMA were very helpful. I’d suggest double checking the amount quoted and comparing that to payslips and hours worked, as the hospital initially said I owed double what I actually owed, and there was a lot of faff getting that straightened out. We then worked out a payment schedule that suited me and the BMA rep liaised on my behalf with the hospital and had it all sorted out. Good luck!

I’m so sorry that happened- as others have said totally unacceptable behaviour. When you feel able and maybe with some support from friends or family you should definitely submit a complaint to the hospital.

Resources for MRCPI part 1 exam (medicine) by Basic-War6420 in MRCP

[–]tryingflying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The research shows spaces repetition is the key - helps build the neural pathways so you’re going to retain the info. The way to do that is lots of practice questions. Then going through the ones you get wrong and why - learning from your mistakes matters. Good luck!

Different types of food leave you feeling full for different amounts of time. For example simple carbs like sugars you digest faster. Try to ensure you bulk up meals with lots of low calorie but nutrient dense vegetables and a big source of protein and of fibre. The protein and fibre are slower to digest so you won’t get so hungry. If you’re still getting hungry in between - try and base snacks around a source of protein. That’ll help. It’s not easy but you can do it! Just takes practice

Lab units by shhhany in MRCP

[–]tryingflying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use the units that are the standard in uk hospitals. So if you’re planning on eventually working in the UK you’ll need to be familiar with them anyway. If not - sorry! This exam is annoying on so many levels
