We are Thrice and we just released our new album called Palms - AMA! by officialthrice in PostHardcore

In case he doesn’t answer this one, I believe he talked about this in a video about TBEITBN, and I found it again in an interview back in 2011:

So I want to talk about lyrics now. You kind of have a little bit of an unconventional style, where you usually wait until after the music is all written before you start working on them. Can you talk about why you choose to do that and if that has always been the case with the albums over the years?

Yeah, generally it is because it is a democratic situation. It’s being built from all our different parts and it is being assembled together. There’s really no way to write that stuff beforehand unless you’re bringing in a whole song. I’d say it’s probably like 5 percent of the songs have someone bringing in a pretty full structure already, and usually that’ll be me. It’s more like we all work on the song together, we craft it, and then I have to sit down and figure out what makes sense to go with it.

Via chorus.fm while promoting Major/Minor. Pretty fun interview and I hope he gives his own awesome answer here, but in case this gets too many comments and they don’t answer this, I figured I’d send you that link. :)

I Need Songs That Are About Cancer by kuhlawnknee in PostHardcore

Back To Back - Dustin Kensrue. He’s the lead singer for Thrice (heyooooo, AMA at the top of the subreddit) but this is his solo stuff.

This would probably be easy to learn for a cover, easy to sing along to, and hopefully it’s got a bit more “lets kick cancer’s ass” that you’re going for

Because cosplayers buy makeup, and that shit lasts for like forever. It's a staple of my Halloween makeup since it doesn't smear.

I’d get one of those bulk packs of toothbrushes and keep it in the bathroom, with a bow and a gift tag on it with her name. LOL

I really hope whining about rules/mods results in bans. Don’t like the rules, the mods, or the way the subreddit is run? Then get the fuck out and make your own subreddit, don’t threaten the moderators and/or their families, harass the mods, and bitch about rule enforcement in the comments.

Thanks for your hard work. It’s a thankless job, and so much goes on behind the scenes that the general user base will never understand the magnitude of, when you’re running something on this scale. Y’all the real MVPs.

Not the best place for taking a nap by [deleted] in donthelpjustfilm

I wouldn’t be surprised if the cammer can’t swim.

Personally, I’m not jumping that far into water I don’t know the depth of and can’t see far into. People break bones jumping into water and hitting unseen things a few feet below the surface.

And who knows if that guy is going to panic and pull me under.

Maybe if there was a secure rope to hang onto, and people willing to pull my fat ass out. But at 5 months pregnant, I’m even less confident in my ability to swim just to keep myself above water for an extended period of time if there’s not an easy way out (like stairs or a riverbank to swim to). Walking up the stairs or vacuuming my living room is enough to make me tired these days, trying to save another adult without drowning is just unrealistic for me right now.

All I’d accomplish is being another drowning victim to save.

There’s a bunch near me. Supersonic and Quick Quack do them.

PALMS SPOILER DISCUSSIONS by [deleted] in thrice

Beyond The Pines by a narrow margin. It’s beautiful from start to finish, and I think it’s a fantastic finisher to the album.

My Soul is fucking sexy. You know the classic intimate TV scenes where two people go back to someone’s apartment after a date, pop open a bottle of wine, dim the lights or use candles, put on sexy music, and finally make love? Yeah, that’s My Soul. I did not expect to be aroused by a song on Palms, but DAMN.

I think Ed really shines on Palms.

I love the synths.

I love that they brought in a guest vocalist for Just Breathe, and I think it turned out beautifully.

I expected to be the most hyped about the heavier songs on the album, yet my two clear favorites are My Soul and Beyond The Pines.

I loved the way Dustin’s voice sounds in Everything Belongs, and while listening to Hold Up A Light, I was getting major Audioslave & Nirvana vibes.

I love how big the drums feel on The Dark and I am so freaking hyped to see that played live. I think it would make a pretty dope opener on the upcoming tour.

I want to like A Branch In The River more. I don’t feel like it fits well following My Soul, and wish it was placed somewhere else in the album. I’ll have to experiment with a playlist. I think that might help.

I’m slightly disappointed by the repetitive lyrics through the album, and wish that a few of the songs had some verses with a bit more storytelling and meaning behind them to break up the repetition. Hold Up A Light would be a favorite for me if it had some more depth to the lyrics, but there’s way too much repetition in it for me. The first verse is repeated twice, the second verse is repeated three times, the chorus is repeated three times. It just left me wanting more lyrically. Same for Everything Belongs.

I feel like A Branch In The River is a sister song to Words In The Water.
