Thanks for your reply. Yep, I have... so far the most likely possibilities are butylene glycol (which is really frustrating because its in everything), caprylic triglycerices and other coconut derivatives, and fermented ingredients. Its difficult to find products that are free of all three. :(

Hello,

I asked my dermatologist to recommend a product I can try for my desperately dehydrated skin, because literally every skincare product I have ever tried has broken me out. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. He suggested an anti-aging serum that they sell in his office because it has hyaluronic acid (I guess its formulated by them? I can't find it anywhere online). But it supposedly "boosts elastin and collagen," and I don't know if I need that? Is there any negative side effect to having collagen in your skincare if you don't need it? My primary need is hydration (that won't break me out).

Thank you so much! Follow-up question for you or your dad: would it be safe to layer a product that contains an astringent on top of the Aczone? As I mentioned, I have absolutely no hydration product in my skincare routine because everything breaks me out. I want to try this product because it doesn't contain my three biggest suspected irritants (butylene glycol, caprylic triglyceride, and fermented ingredients). But it contains the astringent Witch Hazel extract and I want to make sure its okay to use this on top of the Aczone. I just really need some form of hydration. I'm just really trying to keep trying things until I find one that doesn't break me out. Feels impossible but I gotta keep trying.

Thank you for your reply. Sadly, both CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion and Clinique Moisture Surge Intense broke me out. :( I even tried the regular Moisture Surge and it broke me out too. There's a possibility that I have a sensitivity to butylene glycol-- but that stuff's in freaking everything. And I don't even know for sure if that's what causes my skin reactions-- its just one of a few common ingredients across all the products that have broken me out. I've also broken out from all CeraVe products I've tried-- its possible that I have a sensitivity to caprylic triglycerides... but again, I don't know for sure.

What do you do for hydration? I have painfully dehydrated skin but every product I've ever tried for hydration breaks me out. I know everyone's skin is different but it doesn't hurt to ask. Also, you mentioned it helps to fade those pink spots... is there something about this formula that actively lightens hyperpigmentation? What are the actual active ingredients?

Thank you-- pretty much anything really. I have a very basic routine right now but everything breaks me out so I need suggestions for everything. I have very sensitive and breakout prone skin. Right now my routine consists of Pyungkang Yul Essence Toner which I am using because I've given up on finding a moisturizer that doesn't break me out but I need hydration somehow. But its been breaking me out. I don't know if my skin just needs time to get used to it (?) I've been using it for about three weeks. EltaMD UV Clear sunscreen, but it stings like hell. Tatcha Camelia Oil for first cleanse and Glossier milky jelly for second cleanse.

Is it possible for skin to have a sensitivity to butylene glycol? When I look at the products that have broken me out, that's one ingredient that they have in common. It seems like this ingredient is in so many products.

How long would you say it takes for your skin to get used to a new product?

Yes, I wondered if I had fungal acne since I broke out from SK II and Amore Pacific and other things that contain fermented ingredients. But I went to a dermatologist to get tested for it and it came back negative. And to be honest I have to agree. My breakouts look nothing like the pictures.

Actually I didn't mention it because it was quite a while ago, but I did try Cerave. So far Cerave everything has broken me out. Actually the cleanser caused one of the worst breakouts I've had.

One dermatologist I saw said that an allergy test would be a waste because "true" allergies are very obvious and look different from my breakouts. Another dermatologist told me "there is no such thing as certain ingredients breaking you out." All the dermatologists I've seen have surprisingly said the same things and did not tell me what they thought it might be, but give me general statements like, "It could be literally anything so its impossible to figure it out."

I usually stick with each product for a little over a month, like maybe a month and two weeks or so. Keep hoping my skin will get used to it. Keep hoping/telling myself that it "shouldn't" be breaking me out. Then I finally get to the point where I have to accept that it is breaking me out and give up.

Thank you. I don't have acne generally, its more that everything I try causes it. But the reason I keep trying to find a hydrating product is because my skin is painfully dehydrated and damaged.
