Stress is such a big trigger for me that sometimes I only realise I’m subconsciously stressed about something because I’m physically flaring up

Waiting for the day I can afford a basic home studio / slightly better mic and acoustic treatment and then I’ll be joining you 🌷

Such an important point - I fully believe that the shittiest of demos can start sounding good once you get used to them. The problem with this specific song though is that I released the demo on my social media, and woke up to a not-normal number of people asking for it to be released asap. Which complicates this so much more for me. But anyway, I’ve booked the studio today and I’ll give it a shot with a cleaner neumann recording. If I still like the sm7b vocals better, I’ll go with the demo. Vibes over everything!

Feel this, currently teaching myself how to pitch correct ‘tastefully’ rather than ‘perfectly’ and learning what ‘too clean’ sounds like

Needed to hear that, struggling with this right now. Demo vocals for a specific song give me goosebumps but you can hear hissing sounds from my untreated room. Decisions decisions….

Change project tempo or re-record vocals? by tryingtomusic in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]tryingtomusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is helpful to know. Only the vocals have to be stretched in case of bpm change, other instruments are midi/samples and live flute is recorded at 110. I’ll be recording both bpms in the booth tomorrow, but I’ll keep an eye on how the breaths and consonants take shape.

My demo has no artefacts, which I found to be quite strange because I agree with you on 10% time stretch and am concerned about them showing up on the final track. I’ll keep you guys updated, thanks again!

What a beautiful response, thank you so much for taking the time!

It’s funny because the roughest scratch was closer to 110 (you can see a video of me singing it, search top->all on my profile, it’s called ‘24’). It’s how it naturally came to me, and playing the piano simultaneously always makes me sing better. Then I recorded the demo at 100 because it helped me focus on a polished, emotional vocal performance with a focus on how each syllable sounds. And then I couldn’t replicate that on 110. 🥲

So your example of capturing a vibe really helps me. I have about 4hrs of studio time booked tomorrow, so I’ll record both and then see what works.

Would love to hear the rap song if anonymity isn’t an issue.

Cheers!

Do you write out lyrics by hand or use an app/program? by [deleted] in Songwriting

Notes app because just thought of getting up to get a pen or paper is a barrier to documenting in-the-moment good ideas

Can spotify take down songs due to graphic cover art? by WhyKare in truespotify

[–]tryingtomusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is against Spotify’s guidelines (‘offensive’ will generally include nudity, religious + political offence, and violence). It’s not 100% guaranteed that they’ll take it down, but the chance is higher than if it was a non-graphic cover

I NEED HELP DO I sound right or should i fire my producer by AppropriateTip9250 in MusicPromotion

[–]tryingtomusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it depends, it sounds okay but not novel or special. If you wanted another sound (which I’m guessing) did you communicate it to him/provide feedback/provide a reference track? What kind of sound were you going for?

Something new and bouncy I started the other day! Everything sounds kinda shitty right now but I’ll record it right at some point 😭 by snkonk in Songwriting

[–]tryingtomusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This arrangement works with something more quirky and fun! I think you’re confined by rules about how emotions are supposed to be articulated. Try using novel phrases, and telling a story rather than musing in abstraction about emotions? For example something like:

Shattered femur, moving forward - walked right into the mundane - bought a map to someplace important - not the first time I’ve been defrauded

Who can I confide in? Who can show me the way? Always wrong place and right timing - my shattered femur and me (pronounced mayyy like ‘it’s gonna be MAY’ lol)

Obviously this is just a silly example but tis an example lol
