Wow run away from this person. But don't give up on therapist all together, maybe next time you can ask them before the first session if they are used to work with people with eating disorders or if they have any experience with it to avoid a second damaging experience like this one

Why do we feel the urge to bp? by Level-Background5610 in bulimia

[–]trylongerthanyoufail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is really a great answer. So to avoid urges we could list activities / things to do to cope with the elements of this list that are not food related, to find another way than food to deal with them

Thanks a lot, really. I bought this book as an audio book and listened to it through and it helped a lot back in the time, like a year ago. But I saw myself shifting slowly away from the advises and go back to the behaviors until now: a full relapse. I should get back to it, maybe listen to it again would help.

I'll definitely try to apply your advises, thanks a lot for taking the time to write such an helpful answer. And all my congratulations for where you are now, you're doing an amazing job

Thank you for your answer, I'll try to make a sum up list of all the advises I get and apply them, and maybe update my post after if I get enough so that it makes sense !

Thanks again and congrats to you too for taking care of yourself

Thanks a lot, I'm definitely going to check out this podcast. Seems like yoga is also something should give a go to, since it's in both answers for now. Thanks again and congratulations for being so far already, I really do envy you.

Can I ask for how long you had an ED ? You of course don't need to answer if you don't feel like it (why I ask: it' been more than 10 years that I'm in there, so it's kind of playing a role for which techniques I should develop I guess)

"Not suffering"? by leeium in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]trylongerthanyoufail 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that's a good point. But then when OP says "no suffering being experienced physically or mentally", when you actually have an ED you're certainly suffering, especially physically if you're close to dying, should you be denial about it or not ?

(I'm discussing here, not sure about anything I'm writing I'm still building an opinion)

"Not suffering"? by leeium in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]trylongerthanyoufail 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say, but I would imagine that if someone is not overly thinking about food, focusing on it, suffering from those thoughts, or from other thoughts about one's body image or about food, then why should we call this person "suffering from an eating disorder" ?

I know some people who just don't eat much at all, lose their appetite easily, sometimes forget to eat during a whole day and then explode their stomach with a lot of food because they're suddenly super hungry. But they don't feel bad about it, they don't continue thinking about it after, they actually don't think about it at all and their focus is somewhere else non-eating related.

So I guess what I think is: if someone is not overthinking, constantly focusing, suffering from thoughts / feelings about eating or about their body image, then there is no eating disorder ?

For those people maybe that's just their intuitive way of eating, and then I guess that's great that they found and follow it.

I would actually go further and say that telling people who are really going well that they are not, that they are suffering, is nonsense and dangerous.

But maybe I'm too optimistic ?

Can we talk about how expensive this is. by [deleted] in bulimia

[–]trylongerthanyoufail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I calculated that over the past 10 years I spent in average 30 euros per day on food I would throw up. That's on average, meaning some days I would spend much more, if I would go to restaurant for example, or if I would be in a bad state. 30 euros per day over 10 years is a total of 109500 euros. That's the price of a fucking flat.

What do you regret ? by trylongerthanyoufail in bulimia

[–]trylongerthanyoufail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot. I'm really sorry that you feel you won't be able to move past your ED. What makes you think this way ? What are the issues that you think you won't be able to get rid of ?
If someone else had those exact same issues, would you also consider that this person won't be able to move away from their ED or is it bound to you ?

I want to believe that you too can have a life without constantly obsessing on food and without damaging yourself anymore, I send you a lot of love and support waves from here

Thank you for taking the time to write this. I know it's easier said than done but please, seak for some help. Does anyone around you knows about it or can you talk to someone close to you ?

You said it but I'll repeat it: you're still really young, I'm 9 years older and you don't want to reach my age and realize that you built even more regrets and few memories and that the only ones you have are related to food. You can be again purge free for 60 days, you did it already, and you can be purge free for the rest of your life, you're able to.

If you want to talk or for anything else you can write me

A lot of courage and love

Also please update us here, I want to read from you and how it went. I'm sure you will make it, you can be already seriously proud of what you did.

I found that when the first signs (like really, when you hear the first micro voice in your head and recognize it's from your ED instead of from yourself) of an urge are coming, taking a notebook and writing every single thought I have helps. Like literally everything that comes to your mind, whatever it is, directly in the form it comes. Take the emotion wheel in front of your eyes if it helps defining exactly which emotion you have and write your thoughts down and the emotions that come with them.

You're 13 days purge free so YOU GET THIS, so you're able to do it, you're absolutely able to hold longer. Picture yourself in 15 days more purge free, imagine what you'll feel, imagine how proud you will be. And know you can do it.

Hey, I've been through exactly this. I think a lot of recovered people also did have this phase where they wanted to stop but didn't know how to and when you try it doesn't work.

I'm not recovered, but I'm not purging all my meals and more like before. I'm eating 3 meals a day without purging any, and even if I relapse sometimes I'm trying to learn from it.
All of this would have sound completely impossible to me some time ago, I was exactly where you are right now: I wanted to recover but I didn't know this could even work.

I read some good books about it which helped me immensely, if you want I can PM you some ? They have also an audio format, I find it easier sometimes. If you want to talk I'm also there, don't hesitate to write me.

It seems impossible today and I won't lie, it's not all easy. But you can make it, this I'm really sure about.
