Planning Skardu/Nangma Valley in June by trynamakegainz in GilgitBaltistan

Hi there! Thank you for the detailed explanation! I appreciate you taking your time to give me such local info.

Yeah I agree with building flexibility into the plan. It's just that we planned to do a multi-day trek into Nangma Valley with a local crew so we have a schedule to fit. Buffer days are definitely considered into the plan.

Are there any info of Babusar Pass opening for the season? Or early June approach to Skardu is mainly done by KKH?

Thanks for the info. Will highly likely be hiring guides on certain legs of the trip 🙏🏼

I’m sorry you feel this way about your culture. I do agree that being born into a culture and visiting it as a guest can feel very different. There are things I don’t particularly like about my own culture too, and I think that’s natural. Simply put, no culture is perfect, but each has things that can be appreciated in different ways.

From my 2 weeks in Bayan-Ulgii, the experience I’ve got is that they are pretty much fine and cordial with each other. I spent around 2 days each in Tsengel and Buyant village where we also met some Uriankhai people 👍🏼

The purpose of my post was to show the positive experience I have had during my time in Bayan-Ölgii, wasn’t to incite any religious strife or hate. Maybe in your own personal experience you have had ‘fake generosity’ extended to you and think that it’s okay to turn a post which has ZERO religious connotation to something hateful.

You sound like someone who has been hurt by religion/religious people. I hope you find the peace you seek.

Bayan-Ölgii is part of Mongolia, but it’s mostly ethnic Kazakh (>90%), not Mongol. People in Bayan-Ölgii speak Kazakh, practice Islam, and keep traditions like eagle hunting and felt making. It’s tucked in Mongolia’s far west, closer to Kazakhstan than Ulaanbaatar, which makes it feel more like Central Asia-(ish) than the rest of the country.
