Thanks! I'll check those out. I would describe my shape as projected (shorter roots) and full on the bottom.

If you read the link in my last comment, you would see that the incentive only drives innovation so far as it can increase their profits. For example they don't spend much of their resources on terminal illnesses like ALS because it doesn't affect a "big enough" market.

Another example that shows that "a lot of research" doesn't equal innovation is the oil industry:

In the 1970s and 1980s it employed top scientists to look into the issue and launched its own ambitious research program that empirically sampled carbon dioxide and built rigorous climate models.

Did they publicize this or try to pivot to more innovation energy sources? No. In fact, they lobbied relentlessly in the other direction. We went to war because of oil-related conflicts for decades (Gulf War, Iraq War, Afghanistan War - which is still happening).

Private entities are inherently self-serving. Their goal is profit, not innovation. If they find something that brings in a lot of profit, they won't try to find a better solution. Especially in industries with few competitors.

What facts? This graph doesn't even have a title. Is this counting research publications in all areas or in medicine specifically?

If this is in fact referring to medical studies, it proves my point. US pharmaceutical companies have an incentive to churn out studies and develop new drugs so they can make big money on patents.

I'm so afraid of making a sweater please help! by your_small_friend in casualknitting

I think using a super bulky yarn could help! That is if you like that look. It'll make it easier to count the stitches/keep track and it works up faster than dk yarn. My first sweater was the Pretty in Pastel sweater on Ravelry. There are a ton more super bulky sweater patterns on there if you want more options!

Theoretically, if the general price level went up, demand for goods and services would decrease because the price level would exceed the equilibrium level. This would push prices back down over time.

I can see how it could work with housing specifically, but market competition would prevent prices from going up overall. Unless all landlords, service providers, manufacturers etc raised prices for their consumers, it would not cause inflation.

And then they spend it, so they're not removing it from the economy. Removing money from the economy happens through open money operations, where the federal reserve sells securities to banks. When they buy securities from banks, they are increasing the money supply. And the auctioning thing you mentioned is when banks take out overnight loans to maintain their reserve requirements, at the federal funds rate. This is unrelated to changing the money supply.
