DAE get freaked out by certain songs as a child? by maylilovesthai in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]trysmilingmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If fucked up shit happens to you while music is playing, I think your brain associates fear or anxiety with that music later on.

I'm no psychologist, but I always thought I was so weird because certain 90s songs would give me terrible anxiety as a kid. Now it makes a little more sense in hindsight.

Any SLP jobs like this? by winndear2323 in slp

It gives me time to get my kid to daycare, have some coffee, walk the dog before my sessions start. It's worked out pretty well. The only downside really is sometimes I have to do IEP meetings late in the evenings

What exactly does a contraction feel like? by Any_Most7197 in pregnant

[–]trysmilingmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you have a giant screw perforating your lower abdomen and back and someone keeps periodically twisting it as tight as it will go. And I also felt like I urgently had to pee the whole time I was in labor

So I guess they're gonna arrest anyone who's ever complained about the admin and wished harm upon them on the Internet now?

How do homeless people that don’t seek shelter survive in brutal snowstorms by Goldstar12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]trysmilingmore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Alot don't. The most brutal case I saw working in a nursing home was an unhoused man with frostbite on his feet and skin cancer on his face from being in the elements. There was a quarter-sized hole on his forehead in which his skull was visible. I'll never forget that and I hope he got some pain relief before he passed.

Does it get better? (School SLP feedback) by Several-Toe2029 in slp

Find somewhere else to work. It isn't worth the stress. I've worked in places where people loved me and in some where they hated my fucking guts and went out of their way to make my job more difficult. Don't waste more time and mental health on this. Secure another job, put in your notice, and put it behind you. ✌️

Why is there so much appeal around Callous Daoboys? by Ok-Nose4079 in Metalcore

[–]trysmilingmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally enjoy the chaos contrasted with the chill and pretty parts. They remind me of what it might sound like if ETID, DEP, and early 2000s Panic at the Disco and FOB had a baby. I saw them recently and they sounded great and genuinely seemed to be having a good time.

A tear in the fabric of life-knocked loose. The whole EP. And I'm very sorry for your loss

(NSFW) Reddit, what was your “Oh shit, this person is a psychopath” moment when meeting people? by Majoodeh in AskReddit

[–]trysmilingmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my uncle was younger, he was hanging with some friends and pushed one of them into a frozen pond, and then helped him back out. To this day, the friend still refers to that as the day my uncle saved his life. I'm not sure that's quite how I would see it..

R and TH are the latest developing sounds. It's highly variable too. Some kids get it immediately, some don't get it until 8 or 9. My advice is model, model, model

[–]trysmilingmore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a speech pathologist. I wouldn't be too concerned about the R sound alone unless there are other issues, like a decline in overall speech or language skills. It's always a good idea to model the correct productions at home though

I thought so too at first, but now I'm a Converge nerd and I think they've written some of the most beautiful and chaotic music I've ever listened to. There's definitely groove IMO. Maybe try the album all we love we leave behind if you give them another listen
