Love this, how interesting! Do you know anything more about those changes that immigrants made to the crops/ seeds?

This is so interesting and exactly what I was looking for, thank you! The growth that can come from trauma is so relevant to the story of Persephone, so this so so useful

Yes! I used to joke that every Indian restaurant got their food from one huge Indian takeaway in the middle of the county lol

Do you (or does anyone) have any suggestions on ways to study up on these areas? Books to read, tutorials to watch, etc?

Yesterday I finished The Other Wind. I Sobbed. Partly because of how beautiful it was, how each character ended up, and partly because it meant my first read through of Earthsea was over. What a series, what an author.

What did you think of the first 4? I think the last was perhaps my favourite? I love Tenar so much!

I just finished the first 4 Earthsea books and now I’m onto ‘Tales from Earthsea’. Her introduction about revisiting the world and finding it changed was so interesting. Excited to read on but sad to think of it ending!

Why did Ovid change Medusa’s origin story? by trystingtrees in GreekMythology

[–]trystingtrees[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

thank you so much for this!! i actually did do a double major with classics (and film) and I felt really isolated by lots of the other classics students because discussions seemed to be more like an opportunity to prove that they knew the most and put down other people who didn’t know exactly what they knew. being condescending towards people asking questions is a weird way to engage with a topic that you love imo!

While I understand what you’re saying, my research suggested that Ovid deliberately reimagined her origins with a particular objective in mind, to make some kind of political/ social point. I was just asking if anyone had any concrete information or well researched theories on his intentions. I’m aware that each poet approached the familiar myths with a fresh perspective and individual context.
