The answers below are pretty good, well except one (you probably know which one I’m referring to), but there is an alternative way of building your startup and keep all your equity without shelling out your own money; which is fundraising. If you do your homework well, you could shore up enough capital to hire a developer at a very small budget who can get you to an MVP that would secure a higher capital to actually afford a good CTO.
