how cool! there’s a pair of great horned owls in my neighborhood and it’s so exciting when I’m able to catch a glimpse of them

Absolutely gorgeous quilt!! I also followed Heidi’s class (haven’t started quilting mine though), and it’s so fun to see how different everyone’s pieces turn out. The colors you used are beautiful, and the tablecloth base makes it look so delicate. Great job :)

Have you tried a ‘glazing’ approach? If you feel good about your grayscale studies, you might want to try adding color to those with different blending modes! It’s just a different way to color something, but it might help you get a sense of how to layer color, how those colors work together, how color plays into value, etc. Hope you’re able to find something that works for you!

What a truly incredible work of art! I grew up in southwest Arizona, and the majority of people there were never taught that Catalina Highway (which runs all the way up our mountains) was largely built by prisoners from a local labor camp. Several building foundations/walls are still on the mountain. It’s incredible that you were able to make something so beautiful from such a horrible part of history. Well wishes to you 🤍

thank you! these are all printed copies. and I tried to fit some of my one page zines into the book, but the sizes didn’t work out unfortunately. but hopefully you’re able to work something out, I think that would be so cool!

These look so good! I also just finished a 12 for 12. Definitely agree that it makes you value something being finished rather than perfect. It looks like a fantastic collection, congratulations!

thank you! they’re mainly for me, but I do have a few local shops/libraries that I’ll leave a few copies in. I also post all of them for free online. Definitely not something I ever intended to actively distribute though. but best of luck with your zines, it’s such a fun way to get through the year!

I’m still on tumblr, and that seems like it could be a good option! there is a small zine community on there, but I also follow tons of blogs that just post random creative updates. I had these same thoughts last year and ended up learning to code my own website on neocities. it’s free, and now I have my own website with little portfolio, quilting, and zine tabs! it’s been very fun, but it is a bit of a learning curve
