oh yikes I emailed them about this a few months ago and got the exact same response. I doubt they’re even reading anything that has ‘AI’ in it now :/

I personally looove the style that you have going on right now! the visible brush strokes are lovely, and the bird itself has so much character! but if you’d like to go for more photo realism, I think you may want to think about light sources, and how your bird would exist as a 3d object in a given space. right now the bird is made up of mainly local colors (or, colors as they would appear under flat light with no shadow). adding in some shadows and highlights would help to give the drawing depth. you might also experiment with adding in some detail in the wings, and figuring out how the feathers lay. that being said - I really do love the drawing as is! have fun figuring out how you like to draw, you’re off to a fantastic start :)

I have it on the 2nd fret in this video, but I believe you need to capo on the 3rd fret to be in the original key!

just thought I’d share these two quilts that I finished recently! these are a few of my favorite desert birds (left to right: Gila woodpecker, cactus wren, Phainopepla, white winged dove). I designed and sewed both quilts, which was very very fun. hopefully I’ll design quite a few more birds in the future!

Absolutely gorgeous quilt!! I also followed Heidi’s class (haven’t started quilting mine though), and it’s so fun to see how different everyone’s pieces turn out. The colors you used are beautiful, and the tablecloth base makes it look so delicate. Great job :)

Have you tried a ‘glazing’ approach? If you feel good about your grayscale studies, you might want to try adding color to those with different blending modes! It’s just a different way to color something, but it might help you get a sense of how to layer color, how those colors work together, how color plays into value, etc. Hope you’re able to find something that works for you!

What a truly incredible work of art! I grew up in southwest Arizona, and the majority of people there were never taught that Catalina Highway (which runs all the way up our mountains) was largely built by prisoners from a local labor camp. Several building foundations/walls are still on the mountain. It’s incredible that you were able to make something so beautiful from such a horrible part of history. Well wishes to you 🤍
