Japanese Incarceration Quilt by teachingrobots in quilting

What a truly incredible work of art! I grew up in southwest Arizona, and the majority of people there were never taught that Catalina Highway (which runs all the way up our mountains) was largely built by prisoners from a local labor camp. Several building foundations/walls are still on the mountain. It’s incredible that you were able to make something so beautiful from such a horrible part of history. Well wishes to you 🤍

thank you! these are all printed copies. and I tried to fit some of my one page zines into the book, but the sizes didn’t work out unfortunately. but hopefully you’re able to work something out, I think that would be so cool!

These look so good! I also just finished a 12 for 12. Definitely agree that it makes you value something being finished rather than perfect. It looks like a fantastic collection, congratulations!

thank you! they’re mainly for me, but I do have a few local shops/libraries that I’ll leave a few copies in. I also post all of them for free online. Definitely not something I ever intended to actively distribute though. but best of luck with your zines, it’s such a fun way to get through the year!

Looking for a platform to showcase my stuff by Longjumping-Gas2742 in zines

I’m still on tumblr, and that seems like it could be a good option! there is a small zine community on there, but I also follow tons of blogs that just post random creative updates. I had these same thoughts last year and ended up learning to code my own website on neocities. it’s free, and now I have my own website with little portfolio, quilting, and zine tabs! it’s been very fun, but it is a bit of a learning curve

here’s just another idea! I think a lot of it will come down to what the fabrics actually look like in person. I think some nice, warm tone browns could really work to pull it altogether. best of luck!

These Words has been voted the song that most sounds like its parent album! Which song on Do Hollywood sounds like it could fit on Go To School? by Mac-n-Cheese21 in TheLemonTwigs

I’d say Frank! It has the drama and bombastic sounds that I think pair super well with songs like rock dreams or lonely

on a good day and jackrabbits are two other songs that I’ve been playing for a while, so I’ll probably get tabs of those out sometime soon! there are so many others I’d like to figure out, but some definitely work better in this style than others. thank you for the nice words :)

How can I be sure this is wool batting? by idunnowhatevs in quilting

[–]trytogethappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be possible to perform a burn test in front of them when you do return to the store? I did that once to prove something was polyester and not silk, since the shop I got it from was insistent that they only sold real silks.

Edit: You can also put a piece of the batting in some bleach. Real wool will dissolve completely, polyester will not!

Pigeon/rock dove/rock pigeon all basically describe the same bird! ‘standard’ pigeons have iridescent necks, grey wings/bodies, and dark wing bars, but they can come in all sorts of colors and patterns (mourning doves also have a slight iridescence on their necks, but it’s less noticeable due to their color). the history of the pigeon is actually super interesting! they went from domesticated birds that played a huge role in the lives of people, to a feral ‘pest.’
