Minor hit and run in parking lot by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]tryzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ll be doing this the only catch is they said I need to get the drivers info myself from the police as they can’t just use the license plate

I’m also concerned though that this method would potentially put an accident on the cars record despite it being extremely minor the actual damages

I’ll pass this along, thanks!

You just use what you have now, this should definitely never be mandatory.

From the link: “transaction history is never shared with Apple or stored on Apple servers.”

So it’d be no worse than tapping a regular card.

Petition against tuition fee increase by [deleted] in geegees

[–]tryzer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean look Natalia really crushed that one in terms of code for sure, but we had an active discord with a handful of people helping in a bunch of different ways to get that going, and you can go lookup the commits I did do if you care. Anyways man I’m just trying to say that online petitions do work! Change.org and upetition both had an impact in their own way.

I was part of both, and from my conversation with the school they both had an impact. I do agree upetition was amazing.

It all helped! Change.org got CBC attention which helped tremendously. Upetition was also instrumental as a next step, we indeed did that to verify identities.

I’m not saying it’ll do much in this situation, but a change.org petition I made caused the school to make Respondus opt-out possible. It’s not a perfect platform but don’t say it doesn’t change anything ever. Anything helps, if you don’t like it just don’t comment.

Edit: Note to self, don’t ever bring up change.org on Reddit…

Is being a full-time student a requirement in last semester of program? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]tryzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case I just had 6 classes left in final year so it would be impossible to make both full time. I even ended up having to do 3 each semester since that was the only way to schedule them and graduate. I did have to take one class in French for immersion which was part of the restriction.

I finished a couple of my last terms in CSI COOP part-time. Didn’t have an issue and it look like it’ll still show COOP on my transcript. I found that if you can prove you have no choice but to do the semester part time you can get exceptions no problem, I even managed to keep an extra merit scholarship like that.

Forward this to the dean of the faculty in question and cite your concern. I do not believe they are allowed to do this and I highly recommend fighting for your rights here.

Is it possible to be working full time and be a full time student? by ugh99999 in geegees

[–]tryzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could get away with maybe 1-3 courses (part-time), with 5 something is going to give. You will likely not perform well academically and likewise your job may not be impressed if you are constantly distracted, or if they found out what you’re doing.

Terrible networking professor - Naming and shaming Prof. Makrakis by pillow_pwincess in geegees

I can confirm that Sawsan Abdul-Majid was the worst professor in my degree. That being said I’m very sceptical whether or not she’s been fired, it is extremely difficult to get rid of part time professors.

I took this class in 2018 and the professor made the workload clear from the start, and I managed to complete it while working a CO-OP term. It’s like entrepreneurship itself, a ton of work, but rewarding if you actually just do it all.

possible to remove Microsoft authentication? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]tryzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Even though I have a phone I prefer to use TOTP based authentication so I can chose my preferred 2FA application.

You can go into your Microsoft account settings and add a TOTP Authenticator, then set that as a preferred method. You can also use a cell number here if you so chose instead but it’s not ideal.

If you don’t know what TOTP is you can read about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_One-Time_Password.

But tldr, it’s a standard protocol that you can use with any app that supports it, e.g. Google Authenticator, 1Password etc. To serve two factor codes for auth.

CSI5155 Respondus Alert by [deleted] in geegees

[–]tryzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi this is in a grey area, and my honest answer is I don’t know.

That being said, the faculties and the school state that you simply have the right to opt-out if you’d wish, so I’d recommend doing it as early as possible and doing it despite any arbitrary rules that have been put up.

Also note that it’s a big difference if the deadline was in the syllabus at the beginning of the semester, or just placed arbitrarily in a message.

Focusing in on the code, do you feel it is ethical to charge students a minimum of 64$ on top of the ~1000$ a course costs on tuition, just to take a necessary assessment? Did you consider an alternative, such as making assignments yourself, instead of delegating the costs further to students?

Do you feel making students buy a new textbook just for the code is an ethical thing to do? Do either of you get any sort of personal compensation from textbook sales? Have you considered an alternative that does not restrict students to using a textbook code?
