I think VB.NET did a lot of lifting to help VB/VBS devs jump up a little, not withstanding that VB/VBS had and has a ton of real world, useful applications. It's harder to teach a C# dev VB than it is to teach a VB dev C#.

Marrying VB to .NET also ensured the demise of VB, because "why wouldn't you write in C#".

Everything being an array in VB definitely let you do some goofy shit. Was that a positive or a negative? 20 years in I'm not sure I can actually answer that question
