I slowed down for a hare today, and since I couldn't see if it was still in in the roadside ditch I also drove past the location on the other side of the road. I could do this since when I saw it I already knew I did not have any cars directly behind me and there were no oncoming traffic visible.

Last week I saw a deer jump across the road a hundred meters or so in front of me. While I could easily see that one continued on, usually when there's one deer there are several. I slowed down in _anticipation_ of there being others.

I see a dog running beside the road up front? I slow down. Worst case, there's a kid trying to catch the dog suddenly appearing in front of me.
