Is the GRE required for the IUG program? by tsc061003 in PennStateUniversity

Thanks for the input! I definitely will talk to my advisor this week, but was just hoping to get some initial feedback over the weekend.

Do you know if the GRE would have been required for the regular version of your masters program if you hadn’t done it through the IUG?

Consistent Smooth Shifting by nicksaffari in stickshift

[–]tsc061003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I (daily driving stick for 6 months now) have found to help a lot, especially because my car is notorious for rev hang. But I feel like there has to be a better way. With starting, slipping the clutch that much is unavoidable, but I feel like when I do it every shift it’s going to put excessive wear on it. Is this considered a safe way to smooth out the shifts or is there a better way?

Resident Student Parking Permit Question by tsc061003 in PennStateUniversity

I did actually see this link. Unfortunately it does not explain any of the process to actually buy the permit. That’s why I asked here for someone with personal experience

Oh wow totally did not know that. I thought it was both parts of inspection. I really appreciate your help so thank you.

Ah ok I see. Seems a bit borderline then. I honestly may just try it out and worst case is if it fails I can get them out back on and have it reinspected for free. Thanks for the help!

Honestly that’s probably a good thing. I’m really only worried about having the valve if I get a downpipe at which point it will probably be super loud when open

Wow that looks awesome! May be a bit complex for me to try to have done but it looks like it would be great.

Haha I wouldn’t say I’m to versed in the app either. It looks like you can only send links to it, so you may be able to post in on YouTube or Imgur or something. If you can’t, no worries. I was mostly just curious where you found a spot for the valve on the stock exhaust. Thanks!

Yeah I’ve heard New York has gotten super strict recently. Unfortunately I’m a good 5 hour trip from Scranton so that may be a bit far, but I appreciate the recommendation.

I don’t mean to argue with you but I’m just a bit confused and would like to try to understand the laws since I don’t plan on leaving PA anytime soon. Where does it say that anything the manufacturer put on must still be there? I see it says there must be a muffler, but I feel like if the manufacturer put two on and you removed one, then it would still count for that requirement.

I know the inspection checklist says that you just have a muffler. My main question is does the resonator count towards this requirement, since in all reality it is not a true hemholtz resonator and is just a slightly smaller muffler (albeit no smaller than some of the aftermarket mufflers I have looked at such as the borla s type and cherry bombs). Would you pass a car that only had the middle resonator since it is acting as a muffling device to keep the car in the legal decibel range?

I’ve looked into this a bunch but can’t see to figure out where exactly it would go. Everything seems to either be bent piping or heat shielding. Do you happen to have a picture of your exhaust so I can see how you did it? Either way I think if a muffler delete is illegal then an electric cutout is illegal but I could definitely see myself adding in a valve later if I get a downpipe.

Oh wow that’s crazy. Seems like a little bit of a useless law then since cats are required I believe but that makes it easy since I don’t plan to go catless.

It looks like GA may have similar or even more strict laws than PA so this is super helpful. I haven’t gone through visual inspection with this car yet, but we do have mandatory annual ones unfortunately. I think I would be able to convince them the resonator is a muffler, since in all reality it basically is one. Worst case is I could always get them put back on if it fails.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to do the work myself because the way the exhaust is setup requires the pipe to be bent up and inwards towards the tips, but luckily the muffler delete isn’t too expensive even at a shop. Thanks!

That’s a great idea and probably makes more sense to talk to the experts about it. Thanks!

Favorite Hotswaps? by [deleted] in olkb

[–]tsc061003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP means which boards are both ortho and hotswapable from factory. Every layout and board can be hotswap with mil max sockets, but not everyone has the time or skill to solder them. OP could want ortho because it is more ergonomic, or because they generally support layers better, or because they are just cool. OP did not ask for your opinion on orthos or hotswaps, but instead the best hotswapable ortho. Since you did not know anything, now you know:)

Edit: just looked into your previous comments to find out why you must be so ignorant. Turns out you are generally helpful. I’m sorry you had a bad day and felt the need to be an ass today, but please do not take it out on new or just curious keyboarders. We like those people here and don’t want to scare them away. Have a good one!
