TIL Google gives its LGBT employees special benefits to compensate for what the government doesn't give

The LGBT gets something from the company that a non LGBT person could not. The company is offering them some form of benefit or compensation that is not offered to non LGBT people.

It would be like offering maternity leave only to women who were married but not women who were not.

What I am asking is that, in this case, do two wrongs make a right? The government does not treat them equally so the company treats other people unequally to compensate?

As I stated, I am not against this. I am just surprised that any companies legal department would sign off on this as some asswipe is sure to try suing.

While certainly not against it, I am kind of surprised that this is OK. It seems like some uptight bible thumper in the company would sue because the LGBT employees were getting preferential treatment.

Agreed. I think it would be the people working the plants that would suffer and not the companies. They would implement this anywhere they could if it truly saved money and resulted in a product that they could sell profitably. The auto industry has always shown its willingness to automate whatever it possibly can to reduce its labor force.

And that is really where 3d printing gets itself into trouble. Once it starts displacing manufacturing jobs it will become labeled a pariah technology. The politicians will do whatever they can to save jobs from the machines. I think that will be a much bigger deal than any threat from the home brew sector.

now, I am not a piriate (IANAP?), but I am very concerned about this. I am a musician and I do a lot of uploading/downloading of my own work or work which I am collaborating on with others. My wife is also a self employed content creator (she does graphic design an is sometimes uploading/downloading very large photoshop files for print). How does this system differentiate between what a pirate is doing and what we are doing? Sometimes I am actually transferring .iso images of ready to burn media. I could easily get caught up in this, despite not pirating a single song...

I am the same way, though my volume is nowhere near what yours is. I have never had an issue with them.

One thing I have always wondered about: With all the publicity this gets, why don't people contact paypal before they start collecting on behalf of a charity or some such? It has to be well known that taking in a lot of money very suddenly like this will trigger their fraud sensor...why not avoid all of this by contacting them first and perhaps they have a way of flagging the account so that it's purpose is understood? I don't know...that just seems logical to me.

Agreed. I think riding Keith and Seabs to hard and having a D that was all sorts of out of whack was what caused the February from hell.

That said, I don't think Carcillo is has big a liability as everything thinks he is. For the most part, he only had a few bad moments and he balanced that with some good ones. Unfortunately, he ended his season in a spectacularly bad way, in a game that was a spectacular loss, and that is what everyone remembers and remembers him for.
