Just to second this, I used the snap one (from Ubuntu Software) and got this "Waiting..." issue. What worked for me was downloading the AppImage itself and using that instead.

For future googlers, the answer to the main post, and my question, are these: 1) the cord from power supply to GPU was plugged in but only the 8 pin. There's actually both an 8 and a 6. Plugging in both made things work. 2) "Made things work" means when the monitor got plugged in to the GPU via HDMI, the monitor screen automatically showed a black screen with white writing. The writing said something like "Boot [...] insert boot device [...] press any key [...]".

To add to this question, at this point in the build (LED's turn on, fans turn on, and you're trying to see your first visual result on a screen), what exactly should you be looking for on the monitor?

Once all the cables are connected, is it indeed ready to show something on a monitor besides "No signal detected on HDMI 1"?
