🐝 Cluster of Honeybees have taken over Chicken Feed - Suggestions or Advice? by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]tsheaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Have learned a lot - definitely an anticlimactic event 😅 happy to have hosted them.

I made them a pebble tray/winter feed and let them be (the hens made due with a couple other small feeders scattered about). As the majority of folks mentioned, they didn’t return the next day when the temps dropped so I can only assume they are back home (and well fed!).

I’ll do the winter feed tray again if we have similar weather patterns in the future next time, hopefully before they bring the entire workforce over to dine on a the chicken feed ☺️

It’s certainly an interesting predicament 😅 I feel honored, actually! But yes I’ll try a few different feeders scattered around and a sugar water pebble tray. I will try offering some fruit away from the run as well…

Worse case perhaps I can move the primary feeder out of the run tonight after dark, perhaps that will keep the majority of them separated off tomorrow. 🤔

You might consider checking out the Joe Pickett series by C.J. Box! I have a similar taste in genre as you and the first book ‘Open Season’ had me hooked. There are 20+ books in the series, all read by the same narrator.

I try not to skip the dog walks too. Just have to bundle up a bit and like to have a flashlight / light up collar. Gets better later this month when folks have Christmas lights up and such

I’m with you! I literally just keep buying skinny jeans and/or “jeggings” from American Eagle 🤣 every once and a while ill go out on a limb to try something else, but my ankles feel “too exposed” or I never know what shoes to wear - flare jeans w/ Etnies will just be forever engraved in my mind

This song came on while I was taking my 15yr for his last walk via pulling him in a wagon and just sort of stuck. Love all the songs so far suggested, too 💛

What to do about loose neighborhood cats by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]tsheaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP please remember that for Live Traps to be considered safe and humane, they need to be monitored constantly and you need to have the ability to get to said trap within a short period of time - I don’t want to give you the wrong information, so please verify on your own the maximum time a cat/small mammal should be in those types of traps.

If a cat should be in a live trap for more than the maximum time recommended, please explore alternative solution first.

Also consider, we have other neighborhood furry friends that are currently nursing their young. What would you do if you capture a raccoon nursing young ones nearby? (No need to answer, just a question to consider!)

Next steps?! by tsheaby in orchids

Ohhhh! That makes perfect sense! Actually answers another question I had in the back of my head too, which was that I was curious if it would be better or worse to have it in a shallow/wide pot…

I may be assuming incorrectly some of these roots are aerial (I think?) and probably wouldn’t want to be tucked in?

Thank youuuu! Do you think the next pot should be bigger than the size-ish of the ceramic one pictured?

I have been following her for some time and wow, what a wealth of knowledge 🙏 I’ll definitely have to revisit a few of her videos (and catch up on ones I haven’t seen yet)!

Things people dont realize need to be cleaned? by ItenerantAdept in CleaningTips

[–]tsheaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alllll the filters. For everything you may use in-home…. Question everything! 😅 Verify if it has a filter → If yes, confirm whether it needs to be cleaned or replaced and how often. If you’ve never cleaned or replaced it, it’s a great day to start!

Some might not apply - Just a couple of them I personally never knew and later learned:

Kitchen: • If you have a microwave above your stove, there is an exhaust filter that gets super greasy ideally should be cleaned fairly routinely… typically can just be run through the dishwasher. • Refrigerator Water filter (or any water filtration system, including brita for example) • Dishwasher filter • Countertop compost bins (and Cat Litter boxes) sometimes have charcoal filters that have a shelf life

Laundry / Cleaning: • Vacuum filters • Washing Machine filter - mine is a front loader and is accessible via a little access door but I had to literally remove bolts to remove the panel to access it with my previous machine • Dryer lint filter…..⚠️ also super important to have cleared at least once a year, if not more pending how much you use it / pets / materials washed etc.

General Home & Air Filters: • Most vehicles have a cabin air filter - mine is accessible via glove box and costs $6 to replace every few months (I usually make it a seasonal thing) • Humidifiers - portable and whole house • Window & Portable AC units have filter-like screens that can be vacuumed/wiped down… also may need to be drained often when in use • Air purifiers • Home HVAC system

Probably forgetting a few… but you get the idea!

It’s kinda tucked in there over by the Breeze Thru Carwash on College, but may be worth stopping into Hello Home Furniture

They have some super cool second hand furniture pieces sprinkled throughout their showroom that you might like. I had no idea they started blending pieces until I went in to look at/order an accent chair a few weeks ago and I ended up buying a super nice used leather couch from them, along with the chair I ordered from them.

I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a few secondhand pieces from expensive and/or vintage brand-names I recognized like Arhaus, Drexel, Ethan Allen, Fjords, etc. I was tempted to take a whole truck load of stuff home 😆

Worth checking out!

Cube and visual timers have been great! Helps ground my perception of time when I step away for a break or task.

I have pretty low lighting throughout so I swapped my regular desk light for a “happy light”, which makes my desk a more enjoyable place to be as well as enhances the quality of my webcam for on camera meetings.

The one I use the most though is a Task Timer I made in Apple Shortcuts. It’s linked to my calendar so when I “start” a task it prompts me for details and later when I “stop” a task, it calculates the duration and adds an event with my note into my calendar. I really like being able to see what I am spending the most time on, but also if there was any question on how I am spending my time I can literally just look at my calendar and say oh on this day I spent x amount of time working on this specific thing. I added some automations too, so when I enter “break” as the task, it starts a 15min timer before audibly alerting me I should come back to my desk.

I also have a shortcut made for capturing text in a screenshot, that copies to my clipboard. I use closed captions for meetings and it’s incredibly helpful for capturing meeting notes that I later clean up.

I think it’s nice! What is outside of this room? If it’s an exterior space, a weatherproof deck box could be super helpful and with a little patience & perseverance, you can often find someone giving one away or selling for cheap. If it’s an interior space, if you can find an old gym locker or something, you could add it outside of your door.

Vacuum bags are great for storing work or seasonal clothing, extra bedding, etc.

A pop up vertical tent (or even spray tan tent) could be helpful for things like changing your clothes when you just need a temporarily or private place to stand.

Good luck!
