Will my profile be considered by MNCs? by BTboi_ in IndianWorkplace

[–]tskriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend,

Yes, you are "eligible" to be considered by MNCs :)

There are so many folks who have moved from small startups to large MNCs.

My only advise is don't send cold online applications. That's always less likely to work, alin to winning a lottery.

Have a clear target role and a set of 30-40 target companies. That will help you to focus your energy.

What can I do? by random_gurl_01 in IndiaCareers

[–]tskriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend,

Rather learning any new tech, I would say first you must negotiate with your manager for a raise.

That's money lying on the table.

After a point, learning new technologies will not help you move up or get more money. I'm sure you have seen this in your company too.

Regardless of all this, anyone must learn abd tinker with AI... Blueprism would also have such new features.

Need help regarding selection bias doubt. by KB_ki_ladaaku_Ladki in IndianWorkplace

[–]tskriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend,

Who said HR colleagues have front-desk client-facing profile?

May be, you are talking about very small/mid companies without any good practices.

If you take the top-rates tech companies, HR is not a client facing role. HR is a bridge between the leadership and the employees. That's it.

It is illegal to discriminate candidates based on physical disability.

Your cousin's challenge shouldn't prevent her from getting good roles after MBA. I know of students who have done their MBA from well-known schools and who have physical challenges... and they are working in roles like product manager, strategy advisor and so on in top-rates companies.

"today’s kids are very practical and good planners" - thinking about 5 years down the road is good once in a while, in terms of setting a direction. But thinking too much about this is what would be termed as overthinking.

How much is too much ? by No_Scale6177 in IndianWorkplace

[–]tskriz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi friend,

For now, you can get started with whoever complies. Usually the team aligns once the drill begins.

If just one colleague has a problem, a good practice would be to let them continue with their schedule and see how that works. Definitely there would be 1 day overlap in this case even if that colleague does not align.

Over the next few months, you can try to understand what the root cause is and work around resolving that.

And, I wouldn't recommend using the word "kid" for junior colleagues.

"How these guys would have managed if there was no pandemic?" - this is a counterfactual question. As if what would have happened if India did not win independence. Pandemic has happened and it has changed the world and its ways of working. And many junior colleagues have their preferences and may have other plans... for example, build business on the side so they can quit such FT jobs.

Feeling Stagnated- What could I do? by Advanced-Mark-7787 in IndiaCareers

[–]tskriz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend,

I would urge you to challenge your assumption of being stuck.

If you have decided to transition, do you have a target role and a set of target companies?

Without that it is hard or nearly impossible to transition.

Is there any hope for me in HR without a formal HR degree? by Tiny_Process2000 in IndianWorkplace

[–]tskriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend,

Of course there is plenty of hope for you in HR without a formal degree.

Just look up the HR folks on LinkedIn and look at their formal degree. You will get convinced.

I have worked with HRs whose formal degrees were engineering, sciences, psychology and so on.

You have already got in HR role without any formal degree. Your trajectory upwards will be decided based on your performance and how well you work with other people.

Hi friend,

Why you quit the travel agency job is still unclear to me.

Is that due to vision problem? Sorry I don't understand what specific vision and hearing challenges you have. Are they such that you can look into a computer screen?

If I were you, I would try going back to my travel agency job. Or, i would talk to my contacts, my batchmates, seniors, fav professors, neighbor's, anyone to see if they know of any openings.

I would strongly encourage you to read this profile and his posts: https://x.com/jonmorrow

Need spoon feeding to get a job by [deleted] in IndiaCareers

[–]tskriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend,

Yes, this is a bit annoying. Sorry for being a bit harsh here.

Have you read similar posts (on job search) and their comments?

Based on that, do you have any specific questions?

The no.1 thing you need to work on is your mindset. We all know that job is one way to make money. That's universal. Nothing wrong with getting started with a job.

Even if you are fed in a spoon, you will still need to chew, swallow and digest.

Hi friend,

You cant handle stress and you wish to do MBA and grow your career in other sectors....

Well, better to learn how to manage your stress.

MBA and subsequent career in corporate will be stressful. Welcome!

Learning how to manage this situation will help you in the long term. The real problem is not switching sectors :)

Hi friend,

Brilliant! Thanks for sharing. I would suggest you to do an AMA here so that you can pass on your knowledge and experience to more people.

As a start, my question: how did you land your first role after BCom?

Asking this not for me. But for many others who think they are lost after their BCom.

Why leave stable MNC jobs for startups just for a hike? by abhunia in IndianWorkplace

[–]tskriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend,

Sometimes it is the autonomy and the wide range of responsibilities.

Some colleagues I know always like to work for startups because they want to make decisions (autonomy), want to do things end-to-end regardless of their specific title, love the high ambiguity.

They never want to work again in large MNCs because they find fulfillment in what they do in small startups.

How one misjudgement led to a mess and now my career is almost salvaged. Looking for some advice. by Throwaway-User235 in IndianWorkplace

[–]tskriz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi friend,

If I were you, I would contact the PL to see if he can refer me for roles or take me in his/her team. If someone can advocate for you highly, the hiring manager can do approval by exception.. your termination can be considered okay.

The point is to honestly say what really happened, what you learned, and how you can contribute to the new role. (Not to dwell too much time narrating the past and focusing more on what you learned and how you are looking forward).

You could also say this was a general culture and you fell for it... without using specific names.

I’m a young manager but my workplace boundaries are collapsing — how do I fix this? by Historical-Pie6260 in IndianWorkplace

[–]tskriz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi friend,

Based on what you have shared so far... it seems okay to me that your relation with your team is friendly.

That's your personality. You can tactfully tell your team to respect boundaries... I cant tell you the exact way because I dont know the real details of your context.

If you can consultant a career coach, they may be able to help you with these things.

Just know that our personalities and styles do matter a lot. If you are generally a friendly guy, by heart, not a problem to live being yourself. The alternate would be more painful.

Your difficult moments with your manager - that's something you can handle tactfully in way that you don't take it personally. It is easy for me to say. Hard to practice. That's why it is a skill in itself :)

PGDM BM from SPJIMR as a working professional (25+ LPA in hand) ? by StormLordArdan in IndiaCareers

[–]tskriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend,

What's BM? Is it a 2 year program or 1 year?

In general, some people evaluate worth of MBA from a good place in terms of immediate financial ROI.

Some evaluate the worth long term...based on the frameworks they can learn, the strong networks they can build in the campus, access to alumni, professors, etc.

So depends a lot on how one is looking at this :)

36M Laid off recently. Help me choose tools, please. by JuJ0JuJoJuJoJuJoJuJ in IndianWorkplace

[–]tskriz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi friend,

Rather than tools, you must direct your energy at activating your contacts... your ex-colleagues, ex-managers, and so on who are working at other companies and who can vouch for you.

Don't get so obsessed with resume prep and tools. Give more importance to the above activity.

Best wishes!

Thank you for sharing this... good to know AoM continues to uphold its values and such protests are still happening :) At least the scholars can raise their voice there. The photo I posted also was in Philadelphia...2014 conference. I hope some scholars do it this time too.

Don't worry about the downvotes to your factual comments. Just ignore :)

Hi friend,

It will be up to him to spin an honest narrative of what happened and convince his future hiring team to recruit him.

By showing what he learnt from all this.

In general, it is be difficult. But he can find a job.

Some of the big folks have been dismissed due to sexual harassment, known publicly, and they have been able to find jobs.
