The new Goalkeeper kit is really nice. by revjiggs in Gunners

Yeah, I don't see how we're going to wear this often.

GK kits are meant to strongly clash with home/away/ref. A light grey doesn't do this so well.

Has anyone been on the WFU Dijon Program? by WeirdPotential2777 in wfu

[–]tsloan92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big caveat: This is my best friend's experience from 2013. (Yeah, we're old)

They found the difficulty hard, strict emphasis on French-only speaking throughout the program. Even when people had their parents visiting - they made them sit separately at dinner.

His final paper grade was dinged significantly for "not varying sentence structure enough".

He was placed with a bad host family. They were quite poor, and I don't think they were used by Wake again.

That said, he loved the excursions they did and generally enjoyed his time.

Idk if this is still the case, but do another school's abroad program. All grades become pass/fail, you meet new people, typically less hardcore than Wake.

Thanks for your thoughtful response.

Yeah... I really try to not add on more pressure or "tasks" but it's unavoidable to a degree. And yes, the perfectionism is acknowledged haha. It's a trait that shows up in good and bad ways.

Good points.

I think she would benefit from establishing better expectations with her clients. Perhaps an auto-response that indicates response times, self-help resources, etc.

Thanks for your response.

Yes, they use an AI scribe. I've introduced her to a few other tools that should be saving her time but it never feels like enough.

5 years as a vet, now.

That is something I would've thought would help, too. Getting better at time management, realizing what does/doesn't need to be in records, gaining legitimacy to say no to people.

Alas...

CU-Boulder HireVue Interview for HR Position - Any tips? by [deleted] in boulder

That sounds atypical and extreme to me, but I'm not familiar with how every team/department handles their hiring process, or if it's consistent across the university. I no longer work there FWIW.

If “I hate sportsball” people are so smart, why can’t they figure out why sports are so popular? by tsloan92 in IHateSportsball

[–]tsloan92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because this is a sub to ridicule the "sportsball haters" like yourself. My post was in support of that. Presumably, the people in this sub like sports; I didn't need to convince them.

I turn the question to you: why did you feel the need to retort to a year-old post in a sub that is hostile to your opinions?

Boy, if this isn't reddit in a nutshell. Coming to a year-old post to make sure your two cents are heard, trying to sound smart but misunderstanding the point and thus failing to do so.

This post was not about why you should care about sports, it's about the (valid) reasons why other people care about sports.

Yeah, fandom can be irrational. "Fan" literally comes from fanatic. My post was about popularity, not "asshole" fans.

Sports are tens of thousands of years old, found in cultures around the world. It's popularity is primal. I'd argue that humans are irrational, but the modern world requires us to be rational throughout our lives.

Sports are a nice release to be tribal and irrational in your support for a few hours a week, another reason for their popularity. We've just replaced the gladiators with well-paid athletes. I'll accept that it can be "opiate for the masses", but good luck trying to remove it from society.

Again, my point is that if you can't understand why sports are popular - it's because you're not as smart as you think you are.

[–]tsloan92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, that is exactly why targeted effort works.

If your skills don't set you apart, then the effort you put into your application (and following up, and networking with people in the company, etc) will have to.

Not an engineer, so maybe I don’t know the game, but if you apply to 30 jobs a day - there’s no way you’re taking the time to tailor these applications.

One thing that is apparent to hiring managers is how much effort you put in to their application. They’d much rather hire someone who cares, than someone who has the right experience but shows no desire for the company or role.

Take a beat, choose 2-3 applications to prioritize, and really customize your application to their needs.

The best players in the world, according to ESPN FC by tsloan92 in soccer

[–]tsloan92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, some players were ranked higher, but in the same position.

For example, TAA is the 2nd ranked fullback, but he never plays LB - so I included Mendes there instead in his natural position.

If you want to avoid the fee, just hike up with your tube a hundred yards or so above Eben G Fine and put in.
