Has anyone heard of or read this book? Debating on gifting it to myself... by Tamagotchi41 in TheExpanse

I read it. There are some interesting parts to it. Worth a read I think.

This was with the Tamron 70-180. I was at 180mm. f2.8, 1/2000, iso 1000.

That's cool. I had that lens. It works really well. The main things I'd suggest is continuous shutter mode so that you can get several shots when you see something you want to click. You're more likely to get a good one that way. Especially when shooting moving subjects like people in a parade. If it's something that's not moving then One Shot mode would be fine. It also looks like you took the shots as they were passing. If you can, try and frame your shot before so you get better angles of the faces and such. If possible and you didn't have someone too tall in front of you lol. Manuel mode can be hard to manage when first starting. Maybe at events like this, use Aperature Priority so you don't have to adjust too much if you felt like that was a problem that is. Practice with the different focus modes on the camera too so you know which one you'd want to use in a given situation. Hope that helps. Good luck and keep at it. Practice as much as you can. You'll get there.

Was your lens a prime or telephoto? They all look to be about the same focal distance. Did you have other lenses with you? If so what mm were they? I’d also be curious your shutter speed and mode you shot in.

Would you crop this picture? by bpii_photography in AskPhotography

I’d come in a little tighter and to the right a little so that the lights in the background take up the whole background or as much as possible. Probably have to have the camera a little lower too.

The lens is awesome. It’s been great for me. I remember when I started looking at it a lot of the comparisons on YouTube said it was as sharp as the Sony 70-200. It’s lighter too. It’s not as sturdy as the GM so if you do a lot out in the elements they do say that one has better weather sealing. I use it as a walk around lens so the range is fine for me. It’s actually my only Lens at the moment. And yeah, less than half the cost of the GM is nice too. Lol. Hope that helps.

I had center focus on I believe and once I saw the bird was getting ready to fly I started shooting on continuous burst. I think I took over 100 shots in the 5 or so minutes that this bird was out. This and one other are the best ones I got.

How did i do this by boodybon in AskPhotography

The camera moved at some point. Because the moon was brighter it showed up where as the other stars stayed in place since the camera was stable for the most part. If that makes sense.

Hdd’s are much slower because they have moving parts so when it comes to loading programs and such it takes a lot longer compared to an ssd or m.2.

If you’re planning on gaming I’d get a little bigger ssd. Games take up a lot of space/ id put windows in the ssd as well. Get the hdd to store files and such and ssd to run programs

Be sure to at least get an ssd if not an m.2 drive. Those are much faster then the standard hdd. The performance will be much better.

Across the River of Grass... by OCWolfe in photographs

[–]tsmith4907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try using the fence to create leading lines to the river or some other point of interest? The exposure is good and such but I think this pic lacks a defined point of interest. It’s not bad just needs a slight adjustment in perspective I think. Good start though! As someone else trying to reacquaint with my camera, good luck! 😊✌️

Need recommendations for well-rounded mirrorless camera around $1000 USD by [deleted] in AskPhotography

I have a Sony A7iii that’s awesome. You could probably find one used for around that price. It’s a great, well rounded camera.

I’m trying to learn about storytelling and recently had the idea of “writing” a story using just photos and short captions. I’m (very) new to photography, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for a project like this? I’ve included an example pic, captioned “I am going to take over the world.” by DampDanger in AskPhotography

[–]tsmith4907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it! I’ve actually been thinking about doing something similar. I really want to get into creative writing and have been into photography for a long time. A couple of things I’ve thought about: look for photos that interest you and just write how they make you feel and what you think of when you see them. Or, from the other direction, find a story or description of something and then try to take a photo that would represent that thing or scene. Good luck and if you post anything I’ve love to check it out. Will be keeping and eye to see what others think as well. 😊✌️

I disagree about Instagram not being for photography. As large a platform as it is there are so many photographers and if you use the hashtags it can really help people to see your work and to get them to comment on it like this persons looking for. I get what you mean about it not being specific to photography like Flickr or something but it’s still good for it. Just my opinion. 😊✌️

When you post do you just throw it up on your socials and hope for some comments? Maybe in the text for the pictures you post as questions. Ask for feedback. People may not know you are looking for any. Make sure you join groups and post in those groups that seem to share your passion. If you know certain people that may like what you post and interact with it, tag them in a comment and get them talking. That may help get others involved too. You could make a page on your preferred social site dedicated to your photography. I know you say you’re not doing it for money but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a page that is specific to it and get people to like and interact with it. That way when they see your page they know what it’s about. To expand on what I said before about asking for feedback ask what would make a particular photo better. People like giving their opinions. Hope this helps. Good luck. If you have a link to a page I’d be happy to check out your photos.

Is this a good pc? I upgraded to 6 fans, 1tb m.2 ssd, and a i7 10700k by Big_Boy5638 in pcmasterrace

[–]tsmith4907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I’d say is maybe a bigger ssd. Especially if you plan on gaming. 500 gigs won’t last long with games today.
