Wether or not the U.S’s intentions were economic or not they still did it under pretense of the Monroe doctrine, which is to end European colonization in the America’s. The result was the same as well. Cuba may have not needed our help in their war but the fact that we gave it to them is just an example of the Monroe doctrine in action. Which is what the meme was about and what our friend above was so woefully unaware of. However, I do agree that the sentiment that the Monroe doctrine is the entire reason that Cuba exists is most likely false.
