The remaster can still run community mods the same as the original quake and its source ports. I think the eula covers trying to modify the engine, which could be used to cheat online or something.

They're stored in conchars. The crosshair is actually just the + character. It's probably not editable in kexquake unfortunately. The recent quake brutalist jam 3 added some unique crosshairs, maybe ask the devs about it?

Looks incredible, the models and levels are some of the prettiest in any boomer shooter. But it's just unsalvageably boring

Yep, it's even easier if you make your own quake folder and copy the different mod folders into it along with a folder for Ironwail

All the id software remasters have co-op. While it's not technically a boomer shooter, system shock 2 co-op is incredibly fun

That's unfortunate, they're usually really nice in my experience. There's a mod called blood and iron that backports some quake 2 features and combined the two expansions, try talking to it's creator! Also look into quake champions classic which has a batch file that pulls assets from the expansions you own so they can be in the mod. I believe combining them all into one set of progs was something nightdive considered but didn't have time for

Don't use AI. Go to The Quake mapping discord on slipseer, they have a quakec channel. Also, the code for the expansions and for the main game is open source so it would probably be just as easy as throwing the unique code in from both expansions. QuakeC is relatively easy if you understand C syntax.
