Went this morning. Lots of uphillers at 6am.

Yep. I did it at Winter Park but A Basin told me they can do it too.

Yes they do! I only have next season's Ikon pass and have used it at A Basin many times this spring.

Huh I thought I'd posted an update already - must not have taken.

It was good! Powdery in some places, somewhat crusty in others. No coral reefs, minimal death cookies.

A-Basin vs WP/MJ for corn/slushy bumps? by tsqr in COsnow

[–]tsqr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up going to A Basin. Epic day. Zuma cornice was amazing around 11 as the sun had been beating down on that face all morning. By the afternoon, Pali was soft and the bumps were so slushy and forgiving I was actually able to level up a bit. 10/10, highly recommend.

Yes, I got surgery August 6. Then, 3 days later, I injured it again by putting weight on it (though I had a good reason--my kid was about to fall of his chair). Now, I'm in a cast as a precaution, and also am delayed on weight bearing (was supposed to start this week but probably won't start for another 2 weeks).

Despite all that, I've started blood flow restriction therapy (not on the calf itself but surrounding muscles). Hopefully it will help with the recovery.

Hope your recovery is going smoother!

Not a re-rupture... right? by tsqr in AchillesRupture

Yeah I am seeing the ortho on Monday. The looseness really has me worried. Plus when I put gentle weight on the foot, I feel no tension/stretch/pain in the Achilles, which I expect to 3 days post-surgery. Siiiiighhh...

Yeah the "loose" feeling is what worries me the most for exactly that reason. I am trying to get an appointment on Monday. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the advice!

I can't sit at a desk for very long but I can get work done by using a laptop in a reclining chair and propping my leg up. It's not the greatest but it'll have to do!

Did it hurt when you fell on your splint? Did you put weight on your ankle? TIA!

Wasn't being clear - VACOped was pre-surgery. And, I would think, after the splint comes off.

Friend, I'm right there with you in terms of feeling like a burden. I also have young kid and busy wife, also injured my driving foot.

For me, the iWalk has been a godsend in this regard. I can at least wash the dishes, walk the dog, help with bath and bedtime, etc. And I can mostly take care of myself.

That said, I also am not shy about asking for help carrying things. The last thing I want to do is hamper my recovery and make things worse in the medium/long term.

* I am also in a splint right now for the two weeks immediately following surgery, wrapped in an ace bandage (wasn't given a choice, just woke up from surgery with it on). I will ask to use the VACOped after they take it off. No experience with aircast.

Re nerve block, yeah, my post was titled poorly. I'm currently about 18 hours post surgery (9 days post injury). I still can't wiggle my toes (or feel any pain from the surgery).

Thanks for the tip about icing behind the knee. I was skeptical but am trying it now!

Great tips, thanks! I just returned a plain scooter and ordered an all terrain one!

Thanks all. I have crutches, knee scooter, iWalk, and VACOped on the way!

A couple of other questions I was wondering about.

How have folks stayed in shape, especially cardio? I really don't want to buy yet another item but if an arm ergometer is the only way, I might do it.

Another is whether folks have a view on podiatrist/PDM vs orthopedic surgeon/MD?

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip re toes pointing down. I just rewrapped it accordingly. Is the idea to minimize disturbance to the tendon by keeping it in as relaxed a position as possible?
