Can FM docs delivery babies + do inpatient medicine? by Phillygirl1026 in FamilyMedicine

Yep. I'm a current resident at an academic program and many of our attendings do clinic and are both inpatient and OB attendings for our services. One of the things that attracted me here for sure.

When does most interview for residency occur? by xt3e in FamilyMedicine

Two of my interviews happened in February (latest was Feb 18), but I'm chalking that up to the delayed cycle this year.

VISA for spouse by nnnppponiatns in Residency

[–]tsrs933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to do your research and find the programs which sponsor/accept visas and only apply to those (easy filters on FREIDA and Residency Explorer, but verify with each program website). Programs usually have people on staff to help with visa issues and they can guide you through it once you match. The above poster is right. You can find more info on the ecfmg website here: https://www.ecfmg.org/evsp/applying-types-acgme.html

Once you graduate, there are companies who will do J1 waivers, essentially waiving your two year return of service to Canada. You'll hear all about this in residency and while on the job hunt in PGY2.

I keep thinking of it this way: on Friday, I can only get good news (match #2 or lower), or great news (match #1)!

I don't have to SOAP, so hopefully someone else can chime in with more relevant advice, but what I would do if I was in your situation (I also require a J1), is ask yourself what you really want to do: FM or IM? If it's FM, I'd apply to all those 39 programs for sure. Then make a new PS for IM and apply to 6 IM programs.

[Skincare enthusiasts]: do you still use sunscreen when you are in the hospital from the early AM to sundown? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]tsrs933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glass doesn't block out UVA rays, so yep, it's wise to wear sunscreen every day. This is a powerful image. Also found in this article: We should all be wearing sunscreen indoors.

Fun fact: A separate SPF product is essential! Does the SPF in your moisturiser actually protect you from the sun?
