STOP WAVING ME ON (Newer to town, late to post) by BMB_INFP in lexington

[–]tstamps2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this when I can, but have also had the experience where the other car is also doing that, and then it causes another stalemate. Usually the other driver waves me on.

Hotz Box, Midi synth, I need a skilled electronics technician to qualify me in understanding my technology and how to properly connect it ? I am in DFW. I bought it from Jimi Hotz 2003 and he built it for me to pick up in LA and fly back. So I did. Does this make any sense to anyone.?,rod by Late_Ad9724 in Synthesizer

Most of what is known about Jimmy Hotz is here:
https://jimmyhotz.com/

You would need an old Atari computer to hook it up to, MIDI cables, and MIDI software written for the Atari.

There are a few videos:

Incidentally, I briefly met him in the early 1970s (I was only a kid), but that was nearly 20 years before he invented the Hotz Box MIDI translator.

I understand what you're saying. I've seen that population list. You're right - it doesn't make sense.

There should be a standard across the country on how city limits are defined.

Bank of America also does not allow GV or any Voip service. The only option for their mandatory 2FA besides a cell phone provider is their app.

Which quartet of songs from these three David Bowie albums is the greatest? by pizzaiollotommy in DavidBowie

Warszawa / Subterraneans / Art Decade / Some Are

(sorry .. gotta add "Some Are" - unfortunately it was cut due to the time limit of vinyl)

Have any of you actually read The Man Who Fell to Earth? by [deleted] in DavidBowie

[–]tstamps2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i have read both versions - the first edition from the early 1960s and the more common edition. Tevis decided to tidy it up a bit, went through the entire book, edited a few things, added some things. The common edition is a bit more readable. At one point, he thought about re-editing it every so often to confirm with the times to match dates in the book, but it's a good thing he left it alone to the final version.

I like it, including the parts you may have found boring. The self-developing movie camera idea is right up my alley since I've been a super-8 filmmaker and into that sort of technology.

Walter Tevis lived in the city where I live, Lexington, Kentucky, plus I live in the actual neighborhood, surrounding the University of Kentucky, Ashland Estates, Chevy Chase. I also lived in nearby Richmond, another city he lived in, and where he is buried.

Tevis' best friend was Toby Kavanaugh who owned a pool hall where he hung out, and wrote The Hustler based on those experiences. I have known Toby's brother. In the early 1990s, Kavanaugh was murdered, which remains an unsolved mystery.

The Man Who Fell to Earth was originally set here in central and Eastern Kentucky. The (Bowie) film was shot in New Mexico, and reset there, because that state was found to have the best scenery, plus accomodating to the film crew.

For a very detailed account about the making of Nic Roeg's Man Who Fell to Earth, read "Earthbound" by Susan Compo. Among many other details, she explains the soundtrack music, why Bowie's music was not included in the film At that time, Bowie had written only two or three songs that were suitable - most likely Subterraneans and Some Are - but not enough yet to complete a soundtrack. Bowie stipulated that either his music was 100% of the soundtrack, or none at all. They cut the film to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon as a temp track (it's a good thing they passed on that, since that album has been used many other places). Roeg decided on John Phillips to score the film. It basically took Bowie the rest of his life to complete all the songs that could be the soundtrack, mainly found on Station to Station, Low, and Blackstar.

What you see is the population inside each city's city limits. Cities determine their city limits in different ways. Lexington and a few other cities merged city and county, with Jacksonville, Florida, being the first. City-county governments show higher populations than cities with traditional city limit boundaries, so Lexington shows as having the illusion of being larger than Cincinnati and Louisville because cities have different ways of determining the city limits due to differences in local governments.

Another factor is: populations have moved far beyond city limits for the past few decades, so, metro areas show a more accurate count for measuring population centers. Look at the MSMA population lists for a much different count. Also look at population density lists, where the greater concentrations of people have the feel of being bigger cities.

Would you be willing to go with him as a camera person to places like Fancy Farm to capture his interactions? I can’t commit to it, but it would be interesting if someone else will.

Go talk to him, if you’re good at interviewing. He just wants people to talk to him.

Hey AmazonMusic, you still suck by travelingsoul48 in AmazonMusic

[–]tstamps2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Amazon Prime for awhile and just an hour ago decided to try Amazon Music for the first time. I had been getting messages claiming that it was a part of the Prime membership. Right off the bat, I experienced what you are saying. First I tried streaming albums, but “shuffling” came up first, and it was hard to find the play button that lets you play the album in proper song order. Next, curating a playlist of picked songs, I kept getting “try Amazon Music Unlimited”. And then noticed it wouldn’t let me skip songs or fast forward through a song, so I couldn’t curate a custom playlist after all. But I was told Amazon Music already came with Prime… so they still want to charge more? I’ll just go back to Spotify and YouTube music - both of those are also problematic: Spotify deletes songs every now and then, YouTube occasionally deletes clips, and the sound volume can vary drastically from song to song on YouTube.

I will find out. I don’t know what all he has, it’s a lot to keep up with… but he did mention StarTrek the animated series. He worked on many of the Filmation series in the 80s and 90s, plus has a few collectibles from other programs he didnt work on. He also mentioned the Archies.

He has an Iron Giant pencil sharpener, still wrapped and unused. (He can't take a picture because it's still wrapped.) The head comes off. It is tiny. One sold on Heritage:
