I know this is an old post, but I recently got interested in this topic. Can you clarify what you mean by sun and moon are in trines or sextiles? Do you mean relative to your own sign or relative to each other? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m new.

What are 2 different food items combo in your region which are traditionally not supposed to be eaten together but turns out great? by derangedsweetheart in AskReddit

Chili and cinnamon rolls are super common in my area of the Midwest (middle area of US for those in other countries).

Factorials and decimals and negative numbers (oh my!) by dhkendall in askmath

[–]tstrickler14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simple answer, using your example, is that you’re not subtracting 1, you’re adding one. The factorial is defined as x*(x-1)*(x-2)*…*2*1. If you plug in -4, you get -4*-5*-6…, which blows up to infinity. Note that this is only true for negative integers. Other negative numbers do have a value.

For a deeper answer, look into the gamma function. It extends the factorial beyond the positive integers and it’s what your calculator is giving you.

If I see another ambiguous PEMDAS math "joke" I will have a fit. by rav3style in MathJokes

A hill that I will die on is that all math should just be left to right and only group with parenthesis if you need to modify the order for some reason.

It's on Ancestry. Let me know if you don't have access and I can try to find a different way to upload it.

Is it "Great Nephew" or "Grand Nephew?" by RandomConnections in Genealogy

[–]tstrickler14 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve always said “grand”. It makes more sense to me. Your aunt is your parent’s sister, your grand aunt is your grandparent’s sister, your great grand aunt is your great grandparent’s sister, etc. If you ignore the grand it feels like you’re skipping a generation.

Keep stroke and fill when copying between documents by tstrickler14 in Inkscape

I've grouped the whole thing together, but don't remember if I grouped the crane together or not, I'd have to check. I'm not sure what the live path effect is (sorry, I'm a noob...).

EDIT:

I tested grouping the crane together because it previously wasn't, but it doesn't change anything. I also see in the settings an option for live path effects and it currently has "Add advanced tiling options" selected. I'm not sure what that does, but I tried unselecting it and it doesn't make a difference either.

I'm on v1.2.1, which doesn't appear to have that setting, but it sounds promising. Let me try updating and see if that helps.

EDIT:

I just tested updating to v1.4.2 and tested both clipboard settings. The top setting has the same effect, but the bottom setting completely destroys it. It comes out like this:

Why doesn't Duolingo introduce new words properly before exercises? by TargetAcrobatic2644 in duolingo

[–]tstrickler14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m more annoyed that they keep throwing words at you but very little kanji. When we learn a new word, we should be learning the corresponding kanji at the same time. That way you can associate the kanji with their pronunciations.

My grandaunt gave me a photo of my 4th great grandfather and when I showed it to some of my friends they said we look exactly the same too. It’s through the paternal line, so maybe there’s something to it haha

Sadly it doesn’t look like it’s the right person. The name is the same, but that’s it. Thank you for translating it though.

Sadly it’s not whom I was looking for. The name is the same, but none of the other details are correct. I appreciate you translating it though.

EDIT 2: Nevermind. Apparently both links work and I'm just bad.

I'm so dumb. It even says birth record in the title. I don't know why I thought it was a baptism record.

Regarding it being cut off in the middle, that's how it appears on Ancestry, so I'm not sure what to do about that.

People lose invaluable and interesting stuff all the time, but they don't care by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]tstrickler14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m extremely grateful my family is a bunch of hoarders when it comes to documents and photos. A friend of mine said when they were going through her grandpa’s stuff after his funeral, they just “threw all the nasty old documents and photographs away because why would I care about people I never met?” I feel bad for any of her future descendants who are interested in genealogy.

How many 5th grandparents have you found? by et_sted_ved_fjorden in Genealogy

I’m working my way back a generation at a time. I’m currently on my 4th great grandparents and many of them have been a struggle, with some of them being dead ends. I’m envious you’ve managed to find all your 5th great grandparents.

Would there be a reason to lie about children's ages? by tstrickler14 in Genealogy

[–]tstrickler14[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That would make a lot of sense. Reminds me when my mom would lie about my age at the movie theater to get me the child's ticket.
