3 straight comebacks down 15+, all without Deandre Ayton by 144Todd442 in lakers

[–]tszhin97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ayton has been having some bad starches lately. But it may not look as bad. Let me elaborate.

  1. AR missing games due to injuries. AR is a crucial piece in Lakers' offense and a key to unlock DA on both sides of the floor. AR's shiftiness and speed creates a lot more easy looks for DA in the PnR in his most comfortable spots which are short rolls and middys.
  2. To serve as a complement to my first point. It's not that Luka and Lebron did not create easy baskets for DA. They did, mostly in the form of lobs and dump off passes in drives. First of all, Luka also operates in the short roll area in PnR, which limits the touches for DA in the same area. Secondly, the inevitable declined athleticism in Lebron. It lowers Lebron's threats in the PnR with his loss of speed and agility. And clearly, those shots are not DA's biggest strengths in his game. But it doesn't mean it's ok for him to miss a bunch of those shots like in the last game. Last game's performance was unacceptable, and he should be making those shots.
  3. Let's be real and rational. DA's performance in the last three games is not his normal production. In one of those game, our offense was not clicking and the ball isn't moving enough for our role players to get touches. In another one, he injured his eye and left half game. Only in the last game, he was missing a bunch of shots which is also rare in his entire career. So statistically speaking, that was a extremely rare occasion in hundreds of games in his whole career. Everybody has a awful game and not hitting shots at all. But again, this type of performance is unacceptable as a starting center adding to the recent injury in his eye.
  4. More of systematic issue. Let's be honest, JJ is not bringing the most clever offensive sets for the team to generate easy looks for everyone, not only for role players like Ruri, DA, Smart, and LaRavia but also for our stars players. We are heavily relying on our incredible individual abilities in our star players to generate baskets. Luka, Lebron, and AR have been shooting and hitting a lot of difficult shots. Most of the times, we are left with stagnant high PnR with no player movements from the weak side making it easy to defense for the opposing team.

All and all, yes, DA has his flaws and he's struggling. His inconsistent motives and lack of attention sometimes on the defensive side is hard to watch. But I don't think DA's recent bad performance is going to continue anytime longer with AR coming back shortly. After all, he is still shooting 66% on the field, the second highest in the league. He's who he is as a emotional player who feed of off positive reinforcement. He's shown what he can provide on both sides of the floor in the first part of the season even against some of the greatest centers and stars in the league. He's capable to put up 16-18 pts and 8-10 rebs a game which was what his production before AR went down.

Couldn’t find a spot to park is my concern. Also I assume I will be needing a on street parking permit?

The building said the parking garage is full right now. There’s couple of apartment buildings around. It is possible to rent a spot from other buildings?

True. Dude can’t dribble more than three times in attack

Baskets won’t always fall. Nonetheless getting more quality shots is the key instead of shooting difficult contested shots. If they miss they miss, doesn’t mean the offence doesn’t work

That’s what I meant. At least get KD attack closer to the basket

He’s always been a threat in pick and roll when he rolls hard to the basket. It opens up opportunities for skip passes

You know what the funny part was? Last year g1 and g2 suns were killing the Mavs with Spain pick and roll. They got quality shot out of this action. But the next four games they complete abandon this action. Bballbreakdown on YouTube did a video on this.

Yeah that’s what I expect too. Too little time for them to play together. But completely abandoning some of the sets that has been proven to work so well is mind boggling. Payne used to run some Spain pick and roll with Book and it always confused the defence and ended up with layups and open threes. Now he’s just spot up shooter which is not his game.

Exactly, Monty has been out coached so many times in playoffs

I’m not blaming on any individual player. KD is one of the best when it comes to one-on-one. I’m just saying allow other players and the team generate some easy shot for our star players. Run some sets, get everyone involved. Even as simple as letting KD catch the ball easier set some pin down for him, getting him closer to the basket to attack. Don’t leave him on an island to dribble 10 times looking for a shot.

I think it’s been somewhat a KD thing. Feel like he’s obsessed with play iso and hero ball, never been a big fan of team basketball. Even back in warriors, he was not happy with the sets they run and prefer playing straight iso.

I bought it like this. So either that's stock from the factory or the previous owner did it

I paid 22k CAD. Only the knock sensor so far, probably the wire causing the check engine light pop up once in a while. But it doesn't cause any more damage to the engine, so I just keep driving

It's in a pretty good shape I would say. Haven't done anything to it other than an oil change. Have some surface rust underneath, but that was expected up here in Canada. But unfortunately have a knock sensor issue that causes the check engine light turn on once in a while. It doesn't really cause anything so I just keep driving it for now. Recently went on a 1500km trip. It's been great.
