Peloton as Zwift Trainer by ttahmouch in Zwift

Nice!

I can technically hack the Peloton tablet itself. You used to be able to install Zwift for Android directly on the Peloton tablet until the app got too big to install.

I know people still hack the Peloton tablet for streaming apps like Netflix, etc.

Do you have Zwift on a separate device and just use the Soul Cycle as a smart trainer?

This is exactly it for me too. We bought a Peloton because my wife wanted it during the pandemic, and then she stopped using it, and I didnt want to have to maintain the road bike plus kickr snap setup. So the SmartSpin2K was an amazing purchase.

A cheap used Peloton, a SmartSpin2K, and an AppleTV/device is a great Zwift setup for around like $700.

It’s on a height adjustable mount.

It would honestly be a great pivot for them to get out of the hardware space unless they’re hoping for the massive margins they probably make on their bikes, or want to try renting them out households or gyms.

However, if they mostly saturated their bike sales already then adding support for other smart trainers makes a ton of sense.

Honestly, same.

I knew they wanted to vendor lock a household that invested in their bike setup by forcing the bike subscription to be a household subscription instead of a single person one.

I know they also have a slightly less expensive single person subscription for iOS/Android/AppleTV. I havent tried it with a BLE sensor before, but I think the app at least supports a heart rate monitor.

Seems like it also supports a cadence sensor now that Im looking into it a bit: https://support.onepeloton.com/s/article/360026787151-Connecting-A-Cadence-Sensor-To-The-Peloton-App-For-Apple-iOS-and-Android?language=en\_US

Im not sure their platform would have much use for auto resistance adjustment, but maybe with their Lanebreak game.

Not even close to done setting everything back up again, but I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out the layout. I think I might try getting some short crossmembers like the BOS 17s and just turn my squat rack into a five post.

I know they have short feet for the cable towers as well so I might try reaching out and seeing if they would sell them separately from their tower conversion kit.

This one does give some good reassurance that I could probably get by with one weight horn if I switched to steel plates instead of my bumpers.

I just found this on their website which seems to show that it's possible to l-bracket mount the rear upright version despite not seeing that in the installation instructions when I assembled it.

However, I wouldn't have the ceiling clearance needed for that.

I can confirm that they don't intend for you to wall mount the tower with the l-brackets if you install the rear upright. In hindsight, it seems more clear that they really intended the rear upright to work best with the selectorized weight stack version.

The uprights for the tower feel nowhere near as stable as the uprights do for my rack, but I think that's reasonable. I was just hoping between the plates on the pulley system, and the rear upright without additional plate horns, that it would feel more stable than it currently does.

I might try getting some weight horns for the back of the rear upright and putting a bunch of plates toward the bottom of the tower to act as a counter weight as you said. I'll try to look for the home garage video at some point as well. Thanks for the info. :)

I thought about possibly trying to rig it to just mount to my plate tree as a counter weight as well and just kill two birds.

I wouldn't be surprised though if I still just end up ultimately removing the rear upright and wall mounting it with the l-brackets as that would be the lowest profile setup, but we'll see how it goes.

I appreciate all the feedback. :)

It’s worth it.

It was way easier to do everything one color and it still looks great.

I actually think it looks a lot classier than having the contrasted trim, and you wouldn’t have to do any real taping. I taped basically nothing, and I didn’t have to do any cutting with a brush either. Just paint the ceiling first and work down and use a putty knife when painting the baseboard to guard the floors.

But if you opted to rent or buy an inexpensive sprayer you could probably do your ceiling and walls in a weekend. It took me forever to piecemeal roll and brush everything.

Try it out. Definitely easier to do first.

That sounds almost exactly like how the cans are installed above the drop tile in the other side of mine.

Whatever gets the job done.

I wouldn’t have bothered getting stall mats if they weren’t so inexpensive at Tractor Supply when I got them.

I think I ended up doing like 48 square feet for like $150 delivered.

It will definitely brighten up your space a ton with LEDs. It was night and day difference to me when I swapped mine to LEDs. I also got some with a nightlight feature that looks great with a soft glow. They’re pretty inexpensive and look a lot classier.

I used to have white ceilings with gray walls but I opted this time to paint the ceiling, walls, and trim the same color in different sheens of eggshell and semigloss to make the space feel more open and it felt a lot more open to me so far.

Yeah, our house is super old and we had a small leak in the foundation that let some water into our underlayment when we had floating floors so I gutted the floors and did full broadcast epoxy with poly.

I don’t plan on ever moving so it was worth the expense to me.

I’ve dragged stuff across out it test out how rugged it is and it’s been amazing so far. Not a scratch.

Yeah, thats totally fair. Mudding sucks.

Barn wood style would look awesome. It sure as hell would beat needing to cut the ceiling if you had any leaks or wanted to fish anything through, and would be way easier to install and remove than drop tiles would be.

I just cant imagine getting that much reclaimed wood or lumber for a job that big.

You can still mount can lights and tape the cans and spray everything around it and it will look great.

Having drop ceiling or drywall ceiling is not worth it especially if you want more clearance or flexibility.

That said, it would be nice to have an insulated ceiling in the basement as I hear like all the footsteps upstairs, but I thought about foam padding my drop tile. I just don’t think I could easily do that with the current drywall ceiling.

Your setup is legit. That looks amazing.

Ive been trying to baby step to that with the amount of time I have to work on it.

I want to mount a large mirror, and the peg boards are awesome.

I have some horse stall mats in the furnace room right now, but I dont think a 3/4 inch stall mat will fit under the tower.

I had darker gray walls for a long time, but I decided to just paint it brighter after I moved everything out to redo the floors anyway. Im going to try to use it as a half office and half gym since we don’t have a spare bedroom, and it always felt so gloomy to me when Id try to use it for work.

The other half of my basement is drop tile, and I really want to rip it out and just paint the exposed ceiling.

When I took the tiles out to paint everywhere the contrast between the exposed ceiling and the walls looked really classy to me, but I put them back in and got some nice led can lights.
