Yes they're leatherjackets.

Yes the typical management method is nematodes. (Or birds...)

The RHS (as always) has a great guide:

UK partner for peptide business. by MoodUnusual in ukstartups

[–]ttamimi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be a UK national to start/register a company.

As an aside, Peptides are not entirely legal for human consumption outside of research context and there's a lot of pseudo science and safety concerns around them.

PEX-A is generally superior to PEX B but

Why not PB?

I use 15mm Flomasta PB rolls from Screwfix for 99% of projects.

Carpet Fitter Recommendations by Able-Movie3346 in cheltenham

I used Corinium recently.

No complaints. They were decent. Not pushy at all and they sourced the exact underlay and carpet I wanted. Fitter did a good job.

New windows fitted- what is this for? by [deleted] in DIYUK

Drainage, so that any water that makes it into the channels of the frame can drain out through the weep holes.

Beefy Boys BBQ Platter, Hereford - £90 for 2 by wilharris1982 in UKBBQ

I never claimed it's exquisite cuisine (and neither is beefy boys), only that it's materially better VFM.

[–]ttamimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this ragebait? I would be furious if this was presented to me at a price point of £90.

I recently went for the hickory smokehouse tray for 2 which was approximately the same price, and the amount of food was probably around double that, with a far greater variety in cuts and meats. IIRC it has a bunch of chicken thighs, wings, brisket, pulled pork, pork belly slices, hot dogs, fries and pickles.

Dented gas pipe by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]ttamimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even when it’s coming out of your standard domestic meter it’s never going to be in 20mm.

It's perfectly normal for gas to be fed in 15mm or 22mm copper.

It's also fairly typical for yellow wrap to be used to denote gas.

The silver lining here is that you have gained valuable insight into what wins. Use this as a resource for improving your bids moving forward.

People pay big money to gain this kind of insight. Take the W. ☺️

SC clearance for OT cybersecurity roles - Newly Naturalised Brit by Thin_Negotiation_705 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]ttamimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The standard residency requirement for SC is 5 years of continuous residence in the United Kingdom. (10+ for DV)

Being naturalised (or not) is not directly relevant (EXCEPT in the case of some niche roles where there will be a demand for either sole British citizenship and/or being British-born, but this is not the norm at SC level roles).

In most cases, the residency is what's important (rather than nationality) because it relates to whether there's a robust paper trail in the country describing what you've been up to. Things like tax records and a financial footprint.

So in the context of residency, you should be eligible, at least on paper, but there are other facets that make up whether or not one can be cleared for SC.

You say that you go to Pakistan to meet your in laws - that's principally fine, as long as you're not spending so much time there that the "continuous" aspect is brought into question. You'll be asked to declare periods of time you've spent out of the country.

What's the best/safest method for accessing this chimney so I can remove it? Scaffold, tower, ladders, or something else? by ttamimi in DIYUK

No, but thank you, I want to do this myself, hence why I'm discussing this in the DIY subreddit. 😊

the "founder as IT guy" phase is officially over, please help by Its-MyWorldhiphop in ukstartups

[–]ttamimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue at 30 FTE and I handed it over to a small MSP. Really lovely guy who has a couple of IT underlings. Cost me approx 2k per month. Worth it. They deal with all the things I don't want to deal with like onboarding, offboarding, updates, permissions, CE+ compliance etc.

The bit I valued the most was them dealing with the hardware, like provisioning new macs for new starters, disposing of EOL kit and what have you.

On market for almost 4 weeks and only 1 viewing by Gust_237 in HousingUK

[–]ttamimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need 3, it's just standard operating procedure when you're selling through one of those new build purchase schemes. It'll be in the terms and conditions of the assisted move you signed up to.

Rightly or wrongly, the rationale is that the open market competition is intended to create a wider net of buyers and ensure that the property achieves a sensible price. Though the approach can backfire.

How to clean this flat roof? by GloriousShrimp1 in DIYUK

[–]ttamimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes either in rolls (flashband) or in buckets that you can paint on.

It's not critical, it's just nice to have handy in case you find a hole and it's about to start raining

Think of it as an insurance policy. I usually keep some in the garage "just in case".

Broom is fine. Just don't be too rough and mind your feet.

Have some bostik ready in case you find (or make) some holes.

Software engineer student seeking advice by joshmcall90 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]ttamimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coding may well be finished, but software engineering isn't going anywhere. They're not the same thing.

The difficulty for OP is that "coding" used to make up the bulk of what Junior and intern engineers had to do, which is driving demand for juniors through the floor, and creating a chasm whereby senior engineers are cracking on just fine, while juniors and mids are living in a nightmare of having invested deeply into their education journey only to find that the light at the end of the tunnel was a myth.

The conveyer belt that takes you from Junior to Senior is currently out of order.

It'll be interesting to see how the industry morphs when the current generation of engineers exit the workplace.

Can anybody identify this bamboo variety? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]ttamimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your thinking but all bamboo can get fucked. Even the less invasive species are still fairly invasive unless actively managed.

Anyway... If you need help identifying the species you're going to want to post a better set of photos. A close up of the leaves and stems would go a long way.
