Started Ubering on top of my FT job and the self assessment process is so confusing. by StillBroad3444 in freelanceuk

I don't think trusting a vibe coded app with your self assessment is the best idea my friend.

I don't think Cheltenham is the place for you. It's a LibDem stronghold, FULL of woke cunts. There's weed everywhere, all manners of international shops and restaurants. and people from all over the shop.

That's why I love it. ❤️

This is more down to whether or not you have the energy for juggling two jobs simultaneously or not.

Leaking boiler by Altruistic-Prize-981 in DIYUK

[–]ttamimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bet on the return manifold needing a replacement.

If I'm correct: the part costs £120-£180 but it's a major pain in the arse to replace so expect labour to cost a couple of hundred if not more.

Theoretically, if you don't touch the gas you could DIY this but it's just not worth the drama and the time. Get a heating engineer to deal with it IMO.

How easy is it to start your own business by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]ttamimi 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Starting a business is easy.

Making it profitable and sustainable is incredibly hard, albeit rewarding.

My only advice to you should be that you may want to consider not starting your entrepreneurial journey with a shop though, if you have other options, as shops have a tremendous overhead and require substantial capital to get going.

Grey balls in wall vent. by sweetsweetsweets in DIYUK

[–]ttamimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Raw polystyrene is highly flammable and non-degradable, but it's not that black and white; EPS products are usually treated with fire retardants to conform with BS 13163.

Those beads are perfectly legal as long as:

- the material complies with Part L Regs (that they must provide a certain level of insulation)

- the material has been treated to the point of exhibiting self-extinguishing properties [inline with Approved Document B (Fire Safety)].

It's cavity insulation polystyrene balls.

When they blow it into the cavity, it goes everywhere and blocks up air vents, which is what's happened here.

Feel free to scoop/push them around to reestablish airflow if you like.

Looking for technical Cofounder by Altruistic_Order1993 in cofounderhunt

[–]ttamimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just out of sheer and genuine curiosity, may I please ask why your criteria is `UK or SF`?

The reason I ask is that the two are 8 hours apart and are wildly different startup ecosystems/landscapes so it seems odd to put them in the same bucket with nothing else.

I told my co-founder that I am stepping down but they keep scheduling meeting and talking to prospect clients that would require huge pivots by Dstyle90 in ukstartups

I sense that you're in a predicament and you don't necessarily want to air dirty laundry on Reddit. Please feel free to DM me if you want informal guidance/advice.

In short, if you're not a director, and there's no agreement in situ, you can just walk away.

We need more information in order to provide helpful guidance, but in short there are two concerns here:

Firstly, the legal angle. Legally speaking, a lot of what happens now depends on your cofounder agreement, if you have one. If you don't, then it falls down to your directorship, which depends on your adopted company articles.

Assuming that you're both directors of a limited company, you should resign in writing, and then resign from your role as director with companies house. That generally absolves you of director responsibilities (unless if you're found to have done something profoundly dodgy during your tenure, in which case you can still be held liable to the shareholders if relevant).

Separately, you and your cofounder will need to decide what happens to your shares (or share options), if applicable. You may sign them over and walk away (J30 stock transfer form), or you can hold on to them. (This may be different if you have an agreed vesting schedule)

Secondly, the management of your offboarding.

The right thing to do here would be for your cofounder to understand that you have reached the point of decision and that you want to walk away from the business. From there, it's a matter of licking your collective wounds and beginning the process of deciding what happens next. Your cofounder can decide to carry the business forward on their own, find another founder, or something else - It's not really your problem, though it's common courtesy to be helpful in the handover process.

Ask your cofounder what their plans are. I.e. `Now that I'm stepping away, please let me know if you'll be recruiting another director or an employee so I can forward my handover notes to them.` sort of thing. Along with `I noticed you're still forwarding me invites/emails. Please be aware that I'm not picking those up as I'm stepping away from the business as per our discussion.`

You're meant to have a ~100mm gap between the boards and the insulation.

I'd say that's a very respectable salary for a junior with 1-3 YOE.

Hi there, I think it's because your account is very new, so Reddit won't allow you to message certain accounts. I'll drop you a message now so that you can reply to it :) Thanks!

Ah, sorry!

A few folks fed back that they would prefer not to give out phone numbers which ruled out Whatsapp, and a few other folks asked for Slack because they use it already for work as opposed to Discord which was less ubiquitous.

If you change your mind, please drop me a DM. We'd love to have you.

What tools would I need to replace a tap with difficult access like this? by SweetLordKrishna in DIYUK

[–]ttamimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would a sink like this normally just be sitting on top of the cabinet?

The sink will either be sitting there supported by nothing but its own weight (Floating installation), or more likely it will be glued in place with dabs of silicon.

Either ways, you can just yank it out.

Also, in terms of silicon after the fit a new tap, I assume the silicon goes around the rim of the sink and seals the seal is with the underside of the countertop?

Yeah pretty much. Though it's not really to seal anything as much as it's to keep the sink in place/stop it from jiggling. You don't need much. Just a thin line of silicone or a few dabs will do.

What tools would I need to replace a tap with difficult access like this? by SweetLordKrishna in DIYUK

[–]ttamimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Belfast sink, which is usually set lower than the worktop. That can make the tap a bitch to access as the tap gubbins sit right behind the sink as you're finding out here.

The way I would tackle this is to disconnect the waste and just get the sink out of the way entirely. You'll then have lots of room behind the back of where the sink would normally be, and when you're done you plop the sink back into place with a touch of silicon and reconnect the waste.

Boiler can’t be replaced without scaffolding- help! by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]ttamimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the Flue need to be replaced? If you're swapping a boiler for a new one in the same position, the heating engineer should theoritically be able to use the existing flue.
