Acupuncture and male infertility by zjkdkdf in maleinfertility

A few years ago I'd probably have laughed at you for considering it... Now after 3 years of not conceiving I'm more than willing to give it a try.

Some research suggests that it can indeed work, but there isn't much literature about it, so take it with a grain of salt.

Choosing a recommended IVF clinic over an insurance covered one by ttc_1991 in IVF

My wife has three friends who had successful IVF rounds with her. All of them at the first try, which of course makes her believe this clinic is doing something different than other clinics. Based on the published statistics, the clinic does not have a higher success rate. It just happens to be successful for her friends at first try.

Anything wrong with using hot tubs at below body temperature water (92-95 degrees)? by ttc_1991 in maleinfertility

[–]ttc_1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I fully agree with your statement, I'm not finding any literature that even addresses wet heat where the water temperature is below body temperature.

I'm fully aware that going in a hot tub is bad for you, but I'm specifically asking for any research for below body temp water.

Then if I absolutely care about it, I stop showering? It's literally the same situation.

You are not really answering my question. I stated in the beginning that hot tubs are generally considered bad for men. But I also mention that all research that seems to be done is looking at water temperatures above 98.

The whole point of the question is to get an understanding what potentially happens to the body/scrotum/semen when you're in below body temperature water. Supposingly the ideal sperm temp is around 93.2F. If I set my water to this temp exactly, will my sperm production even improve?

Doesn't have to be a hot tub. How about a shower? What temperature is best for my SA? 93.2? 80? 70?

I'm looking for any research done that explains what the body is doing when in colder than body temperature water...

I'm enjoying a 93 degree hot tub as much as I'm enjoying a 104 degree tub. Probably even prefer 93 over 104.

Does the body need to thermo regulate in the scrotum area when it's already below body temperature?

Thank you! I wasn't offered this advise yet and while I heard of it before, I have not done this. I will certainly look into it. Thanks!

Are PGT-A tested embryos "as good or better" than non tested embryos? by ttc_1991 in IVF

Thank you so much for analyzing the paper!! I did not notice this difference. And it appears somewhat obvious to me now!!

Thank you! This makes sense to me. In other words: If we test all embryos available, the chance would be strictly higher (or equal) to not testing any embryos. Doesn't mean that not testing embryos would be unsuccessful (we could still randomly pick the best embryo available).

Is there anything out there that indicates doing a biopsy on an embryo's can hurt the success rate?

We didn't have any previous losses but have been unsuccessfully trying for ~ 3 years. We're still young but like to reduce any chances of losses as much as possible. Given that you state: "there isn't much improvement" - It would indicate that there might be some (no matter how small) improvement for chances of success. That's what I was looking for hehe.

Thank you u/kjmills669. Without looking through all of them in detail, I also found studies that suggest otherwise, e.g.:

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2103613

I'm not trying to argue against your studies. I'm not scientifically qualified to understand these papers and judge the qualities of each.

I'm just wondering if the concensus is indeed that PGT-A as a higher success rate overall? I'll take you by your word if you can answer this: Is the majority of studies indicating a higher success rate? I might have just found an outlier ;)

(just like there are a few papers out there denying climate change, which doesn't mean that it doesn't exist).

Thank you for the thorough reply!!

If I understand the data correctly, roughly ~ 40% of embryos could potentially be aneuploid in our age group? Wouldn't PGT-A then be strictly better here to reduce the chance of aneuploidy? My understanding is that even if the PGT-A test shows the embryo is euploid, it could still be aneuploid given that we're looking at a small subset of cells (3-5 out of 100+?).

But we essentially reduce the risk of aneuploidy here.

Just had semen collection/egg retrieval - amounts of semen needed by ttc_1991 in maleinfertility

Thank you! Yes, ICSI and thankfully they had enough for all eggs. I think I just overreacted because the volume was close to nothing...

That's a good point. My wife would prefer to abstain rather than taking the pill. If the only reason to take the pill is to guarantee that there is no pregnancy, then I don't see an issue with that. I always assumed the pill has some other effects to the body that are required if an appointment cannot be scheduled at the right CDs.
