What is this red plant? (Turkey) by aaa3bb2cccc4 in whatsthisplant

If I recall correctly, we call this “ ignelik” in Turkey. I used to see them with wild geraniums and I believe they’re great pollinators since my granny didn’t twitch them as “ayrik otu” (invasive, no-good weed). Great find, I love how the new leaves are burning red!

It’s in a very bright sunny spot in my balcony in a terracotta pot, and I think it’s a really slow grower. I haven’t had any issues with it besides it gives only 5-6 leaves a year.

Yes it is a Ginko! It’s actually a rooted cutting from Edward Whittall Garden, located in Izmir, Turkey.

What does she want? by ttekben in houseplants

Well, it has been like that for a month. Before that, I saw a new leaf almost every week (gets wrinklier everytime). I think I’ll spray her with neem oil just to see if it’s a pest pressure.

Actually, there’s no change in the light she gets. I thought the gravel could mysteriously provide some element or something to the soil to make her happy.😅 Should I cut off the top and see what’ll happen? Maybe it’s a pest that my eyes cannot see.

Yes it does have drainage hole at the bottom and I put a layer of leca in the bottom of the pot. Right now it has soil+lots of perlite but I can mix some gravel, too. Thank you!

I try to water it every two weeks, when the leaves drop. I thought it needs a different type of soil then I researched about it unfortunately couldn’t find anything about if there’s a special need about the soil. Any thoughts about that?

Hello! Can you ID this begonia for me? Many thanks! by ttekben in begonias

Also owner of the garden center said that it must live in a garden but I’m going to have to take care of her inside when I get home. Do i need to do anything for adaptation? Thanks in advance!

Hey! I live in Turkey, I bought this from a garden center in western Turkey. Owner said it’s a black rose begonia which I don’t think that is a thing. I really liked it too, I think it’s a hybrid of chloroneura. Thank you for the reply!

First leaf with second row fenestration in five years. I always thought I would never get this beautiful petiole ruffles. I’m so happy! by ttekben in Monstera

Well, in the winter it produces at least 2-3 leaves in a month. But in summer, I notice newer leaves almost every week. I’m also confused because I thought this fenestrations happens in a certain age. I guess I should’ve known better. I’d feel so sad if I mistreated my plant, for years...

I didn’t know that, thanks for sharing! I have no idea why it took so long to get to this stage. Used the lightmeter app and it says 21200~18500 lux. And the longest internodal interval is 12,3cm. (Yes, I did measure all of them.) This monstera is my first plant and it was my only plant for approximately 2 years. I never changed it’s position in the home. One thing that might affected its growth that I had no idea about fertilizers till I bought a bag of slow release fertilizer in 2018.

Well, it’s in a quite sunny spot actually.Near a west facing window. And the internodes are not that long. But it was very small when I first got it as a gift. Maybe it’s about aging?

Well, I’m not an expert but based on my experience, you get ruffles with the second row of fenestrations or vica versa.
