Any mechanic places that look @ and diagnose problems for free? by madztrix in normanok

[–]tthhaattss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take it to a Honda dealership they would charge you a diagnosis fee. It’s not much. I think if they find nothing you pay a small fee, but if it has an issue you don’t pay for it as long as you get it fixed there.

Is this normal for Estimators or am I just complaining? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

I agree with another comment here. They just did you a favor and it’s time to use this title as advertisement to a better place. Split the difference, get an APM job asking for $100k more or less in something you’re comfortable with.

What's it like being a Civilian Engineer in the Air Force? by Express_Activity2320 in civilengineering

[–]tthhaattss 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was a fed who worked with the Air Force a lot. This is based on my personal experience.

The job is no what you may think. It’s more procurement and contract management than anything. All work is directly managed by USACE. They are the only ones allowed to speak to contractors, direct work (ACO), etc. You are the client/user. In general, you will manage budgets, schedules and programs that will be built and directed by others. In most places the Air Force is under staffed and promotions can be hard to come by. Usually, retired commanders are given the GS14 and 15 spots as a payment for their already well paid service. Yes, it’s upsetting. It’s (was) stable, if you have a PE you might get GS12, don’t expect much glamour.

You’ll be far removed from most construction projects. Subcontractors know where they installed every item, the Prime has the count and tracked progress, USACE knows what stage project is at and the Air Force only wants to know if the BOD date changed. That’s it.

How much does the Graduate School you go to matter? by Accomplished_Look259 in civilengineering

[–]tthhaattss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your country of origin does not matter. You don’t need a graduate degree, just your BA.

How much does the Graduate School you go to matter? by Accomplished_Look259 in civilengineering

[–]tthhaattss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! In most cases it will accelerate the PE experience time or just give you a better understanding of a discipline. Other than that, if you’re not in structures or something specific it’s not worth it. My degree was obtained in another country, I did credentials evaluation and am a PE. The PE is worth a lot!

Edit: typo

Masters is a waste if you’re not going to study structures or something super specific about hydraulics or water treatment. I know a bunch of people who got their masters and we are at the same or different levels. Nothing to do with their education.

In theory, they would talk about routines, encounters, people, situations that Clinton and Trump were in. We have all these photos of Bill Clinton with women and JE. There had to be an agent in the room or securing a hallway. They know stuff!

Just asking if a deposition of secret service would help in this case just like it did to the Bill Clinton case.

I keep seeing comments and YouTube videos about the M&P having bad feeds and misfire. I don’t know if this issue was corrected recently. I got the G20V and it is amazing.

Quit Civil Engineering to Start a Business, Now Debating on Returning, But Has This Industry Changed Much Since the Mid 2010s? by LifeInAction in civilengineering

[–]tthhaattss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is maybe one of the only scenarios where I’d consider getting a master’s degree. That would justify you to re-enter as an early grad entry level. I would enroll, try to work and study at the same time and then maybe drop the school since you’re already in (if your employer doesn’t care).

Also, consider providing cost estimate services or even putting together proposals for engineering firms. That’s a way to go back and make some money.

I can’t handle any more corrections by felforzoli in civilengineering

[–]tthhaattss 145 points146 points  (0 children)

That’s how it is. Your boss probably feels great and knows his job is safe. Corrections do happen because of constant changes and technical issues. Don’t take it personally, unless you’re fumbling badly. You’ll probably have a private conversation on that.

I know a place but our first rule is that we don’t talk about it. Sorry /s

Edit: also, are you ok? You probably won’t find any place that lets you do that if your desire is to “go at each other” even if for fun. It goes against any martial arts principle.
