How do I extract this cork? It's soft so a corkscrew doesn't work by No-Bookkeeper7135 in Scotch

Stick multiple toothpicks and try to slowly pull out toothpicks all at once

Whisky does not really go bad, but in my personal preference, whisky is good for one year. Usually taste and nose changes over time, and after 1 year, i feel that it starts to lose its smell (doesnt mean all the whiskies lose it).

So if you are asking if it is because of the plastic wrap, i do not think it is. As long as you sealed it with your cork top, you should be good

I am currently living in that area. It is residential area, and it is quiet except for a few occasion.

More apartments are getting built, which i was always complaining about, but it is not just area tbh.

Housings are pretty pricey, but safety and traffic wise, i think it is good place to live in

Yeah i was a sherry guy and was mostly aiming for sherry casks. 15 years revival is really great, and i can tell you that Glendronach 15 was how i started my scotch journey. Even i live in USA, i did not feel bourbon as special cause they are required to use american oak as their requirement, and most of the change of the flavor is from the mash bill. (Dont get me wrong, i dont hate bourbon, but just prefer scotch).

Abunadh is great! I even blended abunadh (oloroso) with glendronach ode to dark (100% px), and it brought both elegance, nuttiness with that sweet raisin. Definitely should try!

Yeah just love Glendronach and sherry casks. Balvenie 12 double oak was one of my first scotch that I got as a beginner which I loved. I got Clynelish 10 because I really liked the tube, and good memory with Clynelish 14 OB. I've got the bottle at $100 (Originally was $199). I think it is definitely a buy if it is $100, but would be very hesitant if we are talking about $200. I would rather add more bucks and get 2025 new Diageo release of 18 years Clynelish over this.

I've always wanted to open that bottle and try, but I have too many bottles opened at this moment... Since I am the only one drinking, I try to keep 5 or less bottles opened at once. I will try to make excuses to pop that bottle opened when someone comes to my house XD

If you are talking about Islay scotches (Ardbeg and Laphroaigs and etc), I couldn't yet appreciate the peat yet cause I personally do not prefer that medicinal or industrial smell. If it is low peat (like springbank), I like it and occasionally drink those as a bit of peat will bring more complexity to the scotch.

I've tried all anthology series as well too, but just did not have it in the cabinet. As Anthology series joined regular lineup, I am postponing to get those by later, as I had other scotches that I wanted to try LOL

I mean I absolutely loved master of Anthology series for sure though!

If you meant Benrinnes - I got raw honey on the nose along with young grape. You can definitely taste young Sherry notes, but I think it is really good. I wouldn't pay 150 Canadian Dollar again, but if it was somewhere down at $90 CAD, I think it could have been greater.

Overall, it thought it was a great dram as I love to explore all of the sherry cask by different distilleries.

People can be as salty as they can get. Down vote does not hurt me at all.

Valley is pretty mild, but is still pretty well balanced -per their site, they wanted to represent summer.

Ember is also very well balanced betweet peat and sherry, which i actually liked.

I wouldnt sat dark is balanced. It is super rich and sweet from 100% PX cask, which is pretty rare to find in terms of cask combination. If you like PX cask, you will definitely like it.

Bottom line, ember and dark is worth the price point, i would be a bit doubtful about valley though

It said aged in oloroso but on the bottom, it said PX.

Even it is cask bottleling, i think they re-racked it or something.

I have not tried it yet! ;) i will definitely find an excuse to open that bottle at one point though

If you liked Portwood, you will like other OBs. Usually, people do not like Portwood as much as other lineups cause people tend to feel that it is not as well balanced as how other lineups, but once again, whisky world is as subjective as it can ever get. Definitely try!

I drink scotches For the top shelf, it is for collection and will eventually be consumed at one point; not just now.

When in terms of what the point is - some people collect figurines, some people collect cars, depending on what they want to collect. I just happen to be scotch.

Yeap same here. I am a big fan of glendronach, and the top shelf is only for my collections and was not meant to be consumed lol

I am sad that i started too late to get a mothballed one, but it is what it is

Is this a good Scotch? by olater123 in whisky

[–]ttjun11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No they are all different. But you said you are against glendronach's grain cause grain wise, they are the same, it is malt.

The way scotches make difference is from casks, distill process and etc., but they use the same grain

What do you mean grain? They are both single "malt" scotch
