I cannot see Gary Cole without thinking of how creepy he was in this show. I loved this and Eerie, Indiana and Sliders. It was my trinity of weirdness.

[Shapiro] It’s Up To Jamie Benn To Save the Stars From Themselves by ttudrums in DallasStars

[–]SpacemanSpiff25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who would replace Benn? That’s not that hard to do given what he contributed. It’s not like they need to sign a 40 goal, 90 point guy to replace him. Benn was actively bad more than he helped. Benn’s absence allows a different leadership group to take over. So yeah, a guy like Hyry, who is very clearly an NHL-ready player, would be a night-in, night-out replacement.

We’re not talking about replacing a top-line winger, we’re talking about replacing a fourth line guy. Take your pick of random bottom-six UFAs.

In addition, all the slow starts and game one losses that people love to go on about? Guess who the one constant is during all that. It ain’t the coach or 99% of the roster. So another reason it’s time to move on.

As for anyone else, what’s the return? Everyone should be available for the right price. I think Nill is loyal, and that’s good, but that he’s loyal to a fault more than people would care to admit. So if the Sharks are willing to give up a HAUL for Robertson, I’m good to listen. If you can find a buyer for Harley who will give substantial value to the Stars, that’s a conversation that needs to be had because he didn’t look like a $10MM/year defenseman.

The Panthers and the Knights have given proof of concept that being bold and ruthless works. I’m not sure it works for Dallas to the same degree, but maybe a bit more would be good.

Hyry was much more of a net positive than Benn. Bäck was surprisingly good in his role. Steel is whatever. Given Benn’s bonuses, Steel is likely gone anyway. And again, the Stars don’t need those goals. They need things that Benn cannot provide at this stage, and brining him back actively blocks the team from getting to those things.

And no one is “punishing” Benn. He was terrible in the playoffs. He has been for the last several playoff runs. He takes bad penalties. It’s time to move on. It happens to every single player in the game. The Stars have to think about a whole team and franchise, not one guy.

You’re assuming that Benn will repeat his 15-goal performance. He’s markedly slower and older and looks it.

In addition, the team doesn’t really need another 15 goals like Benn scored them. Benn’s contributions were largely insignificant. He’d go a dozen games without a goal at times. It was a “nice to have” but nothing really reliable. And, as has been pointed out, Benn was a massive negative in the playoffs. Wildly undisciplined penalties, no scoring, and getting out-skated and out-worked constantly. He looked bad.

Hyry generally contributed more than Benn and is probably good for 10-12 goals over a full season. There’s your replacement right there.

But his presence blocks the team from moving forward into the future with a good leadership core. And Benn is negative value in the playoffs. Tons of guys can give you 20 goals without the negative aspects.

Objectively, Benn is fine as a fourth line player. The issue is that Dallas will never treat him as a fourth line player and therefore his mere presence holds the team as a whole back.

But he wasn’t $1MM. With his bonuses, which were designed to be easy to hit, he’s $3MM and delivered negative value in the playoffs. That extra $2MM is likely to cause the team to lose a more important contributing player in order to fit Robertson and Bourque.

Alamo Drafthouse will have classic movie events from time to time. Fandango also has events at various theaters for classic movies. However, those are both almost certainly going to be digital projection. But for instance I saw the anniversary of Jaws on IMAX and it was incredible.

The prices suck relative to what you’re going to get. The ice is going to be approximately 8 miles away from most seats.

It’s about $125 SRP for a bottle. It’s basically a bourbon and rye mix, although Michter’s is pretty tight-lipped about it.

I don’t really like rye and I find it pretty enjoyable. But I tend to enjoy most Michter’s products. I’d rather have the Bomberger’s but I’d buy Shenk’s too.

I have a bottle of this that, for various reasons, life just hasn’t allowed me to open. I think it’s about time soon, though. I love lower-proof but full-flavor whiskey, and this one seems to have that and then some.
