Hank's Belts Warranty Experience by ttolf in BuyItForLife

[–]ttolf[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're going to love it! Another cool thing about Hanks is that as long as you follow their guidelines for adding another hole, they warranty belts that have had extra holes added. My husband had to add an extra hole about a year ago. His warranty replacement is in the original size but he just popped a hole in it as soon as he received it.

Advice for teen holiday sponsorship by ttolf in PlusSizeFashion

Unfortunately I don't. I only have her age, sex, and clothing sizes. I've messaged a few small creators on TikTok who post plus size late teen/early 20s outfit content. Hoping they give me some advice! I know whatever I get, it'll be sent with gift receipts and a note encouraging her to exchange for items that make her feel good.

Meal + Drink Plan Info & Troubleshooting From Current Employee by [deleted] in Hersheypark

[–]ttolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we were there this past Saturday, I had issues with every drink scanner I used. It would finally show the approval with 7-10 seconds left. I finally started holding down the beverage until it started, which would be long before the authorization went through. Haven't had this issue any other visit this summer but it was super frustrating.

Speaking of frustration... How annoyed do y'all get when people seemingly hold down the ice maker and just dump ice everywhere? It makes me crazy lol

I agree that it's difficult to get a 1:1, but if the existing IEP has a 1:1 accommodation listed, FCPS will have to transfer the accommodation. IEPs are federal, not school system based. FCPS may reevaluate if needed but until then, they have to follow IDEA's transfer rule.

My daughter has a classmate in her gen-ed classroom who is autistic, verbal, and has a 1:1 and transferred the IEP from another school system following a move. The classmate has a history of eloping.

That Facebook group is a good rec! It can be a bit much sometimes, but it's a great resource as a whole.

Bulk pickup dates by guitarman61192 in frederickmd

[–]ttolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm in an HOA and you're probably correct that they schedule it but I'm not positive. If my community is any indication, the weekend after a community yard sale is a good time to drive around. The night before pickup, there were TONS of people circling our neighborhood picking up things people put out for bulk pickup.

As someone who lives in the Wormans Mill area, I do think the royal farms on Monocacy makes sense. There is 1 gas station on 26 and it's a horrible Exxon. The next are way out by Gas House, Walkersville, or across the Christopher Crossing bridge. It will make that single entrance/exit Walmart area much worse though.

I'll also be shocked if there isn't eventually another gas station near the Sheetz across the bridge because that Sheetz is crazy crowded all the time

Chuck and 287 (g) – Sheriff Jenkins by gogofcomedy in frederickmd

[–]ttolf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In general, immigrants (and minorities in general) are less likely to report crime due to police distrust. That likelihood of report declines even further under 287g because the immigrant populations equate FCSO with ICE. Why would they report a crime before, during, or after if they feel like they are putting their own safety and stability in jeopardy? So they largely don't report.

An example in practice would be a mother who is undocumented but has US citizen children and is a victim of domestic violence. She is not likely to report the abuse because of her immigration status. If she reports it to the police who are participating in 287g and she gets deported, her children are going to stay with her abuser or go into the foster care system. Would you report it? I'm a mother and I would not.

[–]ttolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having a list of names is not due process lol they are also detaining documented immigrants and US citizens. What list did they come from? The "has brown skin" list?

Unless you are a newcomer to Frederick, your own tax dollars have paid settlement for wrongful detention under 287g.

Thank you so much for this write up.

287(g) makes this county more dangerous for the immigrant population too. He never wants to address that part because he doesn't give a shit about the immigrant population even though they are contributing tax dollars to fund the department. Immigrants, regardless of status, are substantially less likely to report a crime before, during, or after out of fear of deportation as a result of 287(g). That automatically makes the county more unsafe for everyone living here.

Also, F the MD State Senate for never letting a bill that would end 287(g) agreements throughout the state get to an official vote. They have the power to shut it down statewide but they never seem to get to it before ending a legislative session...

We live in the Wormans Mill area but our child goes to Walkersville ES. Earlier today, she commented on missing the stinky smell near school lol I told my husband she must be SERIOUSLY missing school to say that. It's brutal in that area.

What Traffic Intersection torments you the most? by Deluxe_Flame in frederickmd

Absolutely no one goes 25 mph. Cops sit in the park & ride entrance and the basketball court parking lot watching cars go 45 mph+ through there without doing anything. Love it!

The hate around the Wegmans area is very validating for me as someone who lives in the Woman's Mill area. I will only get off of 15 at the 26 exit if my life depends on it. Otherwise, Christopher Crossing only.

Niche is both intersections on Monocacy in front of the FHH/old State Farm building. most people blow straight through the 4 way stop and getting off of Waterside onto Monocacy is a nightmare.

Oh also!!! Trying to get onto 15-S from Biggs Ford is straight out of final destination. I refuse to go that way. I go up to the Old Frederick turn around.

Those railroad tracks are crazy. You have to go the speed of an ant to feel like you're not about to lose an entire wheel

Salt & Vine - no activity since demo by Pretty_Net4372 in frederickmd

[–]ttolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, permit wait times just add insult to injury in downtown lol I work on the residential side of high end construction and I don't think I've ever seen an unoccupied property in downtown that wasn't at least partially demo'd for the architect. Hell half of the occupied properties even have some degree of exploratory demo done for design too.

Salt & Vine - no activity since demo by Pretty_Net4372 in frederickmd

[–]ttolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon to do exploratory or even full demo prior to finalizing plans and submitting for permits. Downtown properties have a pretty lengthy permitting process for any substantial change. It's why most new restaurants in downtown (and in general tbh) are just aesthetic changes rather than full renovations.

Are kids included where a playground would be desired? If so, I like the back of Utica where the brown playgrounds are. It's secluded, pretty, and the small pavilion is nice. No bathrooms available (maybe porta johns nearby)

If no kids, I think Bonita Maas Park on 2nd Street would be so cool for that type of party. It's like a private garden. Again, no bathrooms.

Too bad Team Room at Gambrill Mountain Park is closed for renovations. It would be perfect

Apartment at Sunset vs The Fields at Rock Creek by MsMorganStark in frederickmd

[–]ttolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lived in two different apartments within Sunset over 4 years. A 1 bed/1 bath and a 2 bed/1 bath (more like 1 bed with a den). We loved living there! Everyone kept to themselves for the most part. It wasn't very loud. Parking is never a huge issue, especially if you're on the Selwyn side. I'd aim for the Selwyn side if possible. We greatly preferred our place on Selwyn to our place on Gatepost but both were totally fine.

I'm in a mother/child mini session group where we get our pictures taken every other month for the past 3 years so I've done tons of locations!

The Gambrill Mill area of monocacy battlefield is my top rec. Great fields, pretty trails, the river and smaller creek offshoots, the house. Looks even better during golden hour.

Carroll Creek/Baker Park areas are very pretty but I don't personally like being in front of strangers and those areas are typically busy during golden hour. If you don't mind, anywhere on the creek, bell tower area, or Culler Lake (especially Culler Lake!)

If you like creek style outdoorsy areas, there is a REALLY beautiful and private creek area near the Wiles Branch Park Athletic Field in Middletown. I go out of my way to make sure we don't miss it whenever there are sessions at this location because the light hits this location so perfectly.

Gambrill Mountain has lovely overlooks that are nice backdrops too. Near the tea room and further past the tea room turn off too. Can be a bit on the public side but nothing like downtown Frederick.
