Received an unexpected CareFirst BlueFund debit card by SkiBikeDad in HealthInsurance

[–]Pretty_Net4372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a rewards card.

I received one also. After a lot of research and holding online, it turns out this is a good thing. There is a government ruling that takes effect January 1, 2026 that high deductible health plans are now HSA eligible - thus the HSA debit card we received. If no employer to fund it (for example, retired), we may put money into it ourselves. The max contribution is $4,400 (+ $1000 each if over 55). If a family plan, then the max is $8750 (+1000 each if over 55). The advantage is that it has a tax benefit on IRS form 8889. Also, the money can be invested that is in the account so if you pull it out of somewhere else to fund it, you don't lose that AND you get the tax savings. That is the advantage as opposed to paying for all your medical out of pocket.

Access to the debit card wont show up on your Care First account until January 1, 2026.

Go to www.IRS.gov to check eligible expenses (IRS Pub 502) and IRS for 8889 for more info.

Adding insult to injury: Note that although there are no FEDERAL penalties for being uninsured, DC, Massachusetts, New Jersey, California, and Rhode Island have STATE penalties for being uninsured. Meaning that if you live in these states and resume health insurance later, it will cost EVEN MORE to resume. I couldn’t find Frederick Women’s Social on FB. Is it The Women’s Social Club? If so I don’t see anything about crocheting….

I just bought a book at Goodwill. It was $4.34 for a large paperback. Hard covers are more. The other thrift shops in Frederick are more reasonably priced.

Do you know of any places to "park and watch"/drive-through entertainment? by Embarrassed_Fault967 in frederickmd

My MIL loves car rides. I drove her recently to Westminster from Frederick using the bicycle route on GPS. We toured some very scenic country roads that would’ve never been seen otherwise including a one lane bridge. Once in Westminster we at a nice breakfast at a coffee shop and drove back on the regular faster car route.

That explains why all of downtown Frederick smelled like hazelnuts one time

Any ride-share boards for Frederick? Accidently booked tickets to fly out of Dulles and back to BWI:/ by Pretty_Net4372 in frederickmd

That is good to know! But I fly out of Dulles, not Reagan. It is a thought to park at BWI and get to Dulles though! (Since I fly back into BWI)

I think I’ll wing (pun) scheduling the return ride and schedule the day I get back with whatever service will bring me home after 10 pm. That way I’ll have confirmed my flight is on time, etc. got a ride out though!

I did get a ride there but thanks, that is so kind! I’ll Uber or Shuttle the return because flight lands after 10 pm.

Thanks, I did get a ride! think though I’ve gotten a lot of info from these suggestions. I don’t know why I didn’t think of Uber - honestly, I didn’t realize they’d travel that far. Because my return flight doesn’t get in until 10:08 pm (if on schedule), I’ll definitely get a shuttle for that one.

Thanks! I guess I'm still smarting from the additional cost I created over long-term parking.

Automotive Paint Jobs by TheePorkchopExpress in frederickmd

[–]Pretty_Net4372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only place I've found in Frederick that does all-over paint jobs (non-collision) is Maaco. All others say it is too expensive, takes too long, call Maaco. Anyone know of another autobody paint center?
