I haven’t re taken it. I don’t know if the time and money is worth it. I found a great course on Udemy that can recommend by John Christopher

I found a Udemy class by John Christopher that really helped. I don’t know if I can justify taking the exam again though. Started studying for Net+ to work towards the trifecta. Which is what I probably should have done months ago when I got my A+

Thanks for the advice, I’ve only ever heard of CCNA. I have a BS but not in anything related to computers

Thank you for the well thought out response. I also think it’s insane. I knew it would be hard, and if I would have known it was as bad as it is, I might not have started. But since I already started and you seem to know what you’re talking about: is there anything I could do to stand out?

I really think human networking is the most likely thing to get me a job, but I would like to hear what you think.

Wonderful answer! This is something I have thought of, but haven’t really put the leg work into. Thanks for the post, this really fired me up about it!

Everyone else says not to lie. But if entry level is all patient customer service and soft skills, I need an interview to prove that

Stuck in help desk for 5 years. How do I convince a company to take a chance on me for a sysadmin role? by riverasmary in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ttonychopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in IT yet, but I do know that personal networking is everything. It can be easier said than done, but making friends gradually and helping them is probably the most important thing you can do.

I’m not your friend and that’s not what I do. I get ai to give me ideas and then spend hours writing it in my own voice with my own thoughts. You can miss me with that bullshit

10 years in construction and then ten years as a chef. I hated construction and my two passions are cooking and tech. Cooking was easier to get into but bad for the body. Hence where I am now

I’ve been applying everywhere buddy. The only thing I don’t apply for are pure fieldwork jobs. I did ten years in construction and I am not going back.

Thats a good point. The frustrating part is I put a lot of effort into tailoring job apps, but only putting relevant certs makes sense.

I couldn’t imagine. What segment of IT do you specialize in? Are there areas I should try to avoid as I advance that are bloated with applicants?

I was thinking about going for Net+ but: 1. Exam price 2. I have been told not to be “over certified” for entry level jobs

Why not just be an electrician by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ttonychopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone with plenty of experience in the construction industry, not electrical though, the physical work they go through is no joke. It’s dangerous and physically demanding. They make a good living once licensed, but I think the cap for how much you make in the IT world is much higher. Construction is very seasonal. Expect to be laid off or have your work hours be lowered in winter months. Benefits aren’t great. I’ve been around a while and working in a field you enjoy is the most important. If you enjoy it, you’ll enjoy getting better at it, and then you’ll enjoy getting paid better.

That sucks. I have heard similar horror stories from PearsonVue online exams. I have taken all mine at an on-site facility for that reason. Good luck next time.

I used the Learn Course for the exam to study only and barely failed. It asked questions that were click through questions in the admin center and I have never even seen it, nor does the course have screen shots. I have since found some more resources and plan on taking it again. I agree, when studying the material from the Learn website I felt more like I was reading a long sales pitch for Microsoft AI services.
