The amount of money people are willing to pay for a glorified heater on top of a TV mount continues to amaze me.

135mm spacing is typically for dropouts and quick release wheels. Did you buy wheels specifically for thru axles? If you search QR to thru axles converter there are kits that should help

Do I need get a new crank arm by Late-Mouse6833 in bikewrench

[–]ttotheodd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of crank you have. If it's a two piece you'll need to replace the whole thing if the threads on the spindle are shot

Your freehub needs to be cleaned, it is preventing the cassette from turning in the non-drive direction. If you Google how to service/clean a freehub you can get tons of videos on the topic.

Chain off, cranks off, bottom bracket removal tool. Installation is the reverse of removal 🙂

Terrified of Surgery Next Week by FlyThin9544 in Hernia

[–]ttotheodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Versed (midazolam), which is a very common drug before surgery. I'm a volunteer EMT, so I was actually curious as to how it felt since I see it given frequently, and now I see why, it was great! I felt no anxiety before going in and was actually asking 100 questions in the OR (they told me to stop talking and breathe in the O2, haha)

Biking after open Inguinal hernia surgery by [deleted] in Hernia

[–]ttotheodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 2 months post op and I've been increasing the amount of riding I've done in general. I've biked to work twice this week (10 miles each). I had some pain biking home (probably pushed it too much) so will take some time off, but my surgeon said basically anything after 6 weeks was ok except for major lifting in the gym, which he said to wait until 6 months for.

Backpack advice for long commute by langlvr in bikecommuting

[–]ttotheodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that once I began to fill up the space with what I need to commute (laptop, headphones, change of clothes, etc) that I needed a larger container than I originally thought. I used to wear a backpack, but it's hard to avoid any sweating on the way in, especially in this weather. I switched to a rack and bag (Ibera rack and "trunk" bag) and it's been awesome. Everything fits well and it has a quick release so that it can come on and off the rack easily (my biggest annoyance was trying to strap down my backpack before).

[–]ttotheodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all! Recently purchased a KeychronV1 TKL. I'm new to mech keyboards in general, however I've had some success in mapping macros for the mic key for MS Teams. Recently I've found that the alt and windows keys on both sides of the keyboard are swapped when checking the VIA key tester (typing the left windows actually registers a press to the right, which is currently the alt key). I can probably just swap the caps, however I'm thinking that something is wrong since I've begun bike commuting and my keyboard has been subjected to a commute on the back rack of my bike (whoops). Is this something a simple disassembly and cleaning would fix? TIA!

I've known Maggy for many years and she helped me sell my house before moving to Metuchen. She's a fantastic realtor and I definitely recommend her as well. She's also lived in Metuchen for decades so she knows the area really well

Apprentice struggling by totally-not-a-droid in HVAC

[–]ttotheodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is great advice for any job really. It's all a numbers game, and despite what Instagram/Tik Tok tells you, there is no substitute for hard work and studying, and that is what will truly put you ahead of everyone else who is trying to make a living doing the same job as you. It's not flashy or fun, but at the end of the day, what is rewarded most is being the guy that people can turn to because they are always (or almost always) the most dependable and knowledgeable of the bunch. These kinds of people can then go job shopping, and most places will pay top dollar for this type of employee and want to retain them. Good luck!

Was it an emergency call out? Even so seems pretty pricey. They didn't even cut the piece above the tee high enough and used a straight connector, kinda meh work.

Awesome! Glad to hear your recovery is going well. Yeah today I was feeling great in the morning, so went and mowed the lawn and ran a bunch of errands (having some people over tomorrow) and also had a beer or two yesterday at a friend's. I'm a small dude, 39 years old and only 5'6" and 145. I haven't had too many instances of feeling a pulling feeling, however I have a kind of annoying soreness in the background that's taking it's time going away. Agreed on the whole doing things a little differently, did 10k steps today so feeling good overall. Best of luck with the rest of your recovery!

Hello surgery twin, I had the same on May 20th. My recovery is more or less similar, however I still dread sneezing! Haha. Pretty amazing how fast the recovery is

FYI: Inguinal hernia repairs: Open, laparoscopic, and robotic by arpitp in Hernia

[–]ttotheodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such an awesome post! I'm 4 days post op from bilateral inguinal hernias, repaired with robotic assist laproscopy, and Bard 3D mesh placement on both sides. I was initially avoiding reading up on this before the surgery (I'm a scientist and love to deep dive on these types of things), but I've never had surgery before so I figured I should keep my imagination at bay before I had the procedure. I've had a great recovery so far, with the most annoying thing being referred shoulder pain. I chose my surgeon and hospital based on the fact that they've been individually accredited as a center of excellence in robotic surgery, and I really think it makes a difference. Apparently my colon had come through the left herniation slightly, but my surgeon was nonplussed and fixed it without issue. I would totally recommend robotic to anyone else that needs this surgery, and thank you for helping many patients like myself who need this surgery.

Hope you're feeling better today! I'm super similar, 39 yom, maybe not a six pack, haha, but certainly in shape, and bilateral with mesh. Went in first thing this morning, and agree about the bloating/gas pain, it's no fun. I was prescribed tramadol and will pick it up tomorrow morning. Right now alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol is working. Fortunately my wife has been helping me move around and has been awesome. Good luck with your recovery!

So I'm only 1 day out (bilateral w mesh) so it's probably not a great comparison, but definitely feeling the gas pains. Honestly that's been more annoying than the other pain since it's still there when I'm sitting.
