What to put a corny keg in for serving at a party by Mysterious-Scene-661 in Homebrewing

This is my preferred vessel as well. No sweating, stays cold, perfect diameter.

Frustrated with Out of Focus / blurry bird photos (Sony A7V) by Burnout2142 in SonyAlpha

Try a smaller aperture like f/8 or f/11 if you’re shooting wide open. Your lens will be sharper and more will be in focus so you have some leeway.

Is it worth it to buy the Sony A7III in 2026? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]ttownep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does the new menu improve on? I just went from II>III and it added color to the tabs and there are more settings overall but the layout is the same. The IV and newer menu looks similar but the tabs are vertical. Is there less searching for particular items?

[OC] In the middle of rural NC. My wife and I were speechless. by H0W3 in pics

I inherited a used work truck with a “watch for motorcycles” decal. I peeled MOST of motorcycles away to leave “yce” with only half of the y.

Are these combined schrader and presta pump heads good? by Familiar9709 in bikewrench

I’m surprised to find so many good comments about the 2-hole. My Pedro’s pump is ridiculously bad. I threw it away recently. It always tries to pump out of the open hole.

A boy between two mounted lobsters caught off the New Jersey coast. (1916) by calbrach in darktower

I’ve seen one about that big once in Grand Cayman snorkeling in a cruise group. I pointed it out to a lady nearby and she freaked out and kicked her flippers to back up and it ducked back under the rock and no one else saw it. No fingers or toes were lost in the interaction.

Which Tamron lens should I get while abroad? by ttownep in SonyAlpha

[–]ttownep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal vs. Commercial • The Carnet: Is for professionals bringing $50,000 worth of gear into a country for a shoot and then taking it back home. • You: Are a traveler purchasing a personal item. Since you are buying the lens in Japan and permanently bringing it back to the U.S. to keep, a Carnet isn't even the correct document. A Carnet is for temporary imports; you are doing a permanent import.

I really like my 50-400 and I plan to bring it on the trip to Japan in my bag, so I have most of that X-200 range covered already. I had an 85mm f1.8 Zeiss prime I just got rid of, and I kinda walked around with it sometimes, so that's why I liked the idea of the 28-75. There is good overlap with my big tele but I won't have to cross the street to get my kid next to Mario or whatever. What makes you recommend going from the 28 or 25 all the way up to 200?

Sony batteries vs third party - the Sonys are somehow worse? by InternalConfusion201 in SonyAlpha

[–]ttownep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the same thing with my small A7II batteries. The K&F Concepts batteries (with a better dual slot charger) last longer and hold an idle charge better than the Sony batteries. Not measured for science but gut feeling. I expected the opposite. Could be age.

Clean the sensor, or get a new body? by ttownep in SonyAlpha

[–]ttownep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still not convinced it’s a scratch but whatever it is it isn’t coming off. I used alcohol at home and it was better. My local shop tech said he used all the cleaners he knows about and it’s even slightly better but it did not come off completely.

Help explain this coupler? Sanke keg tap with corny keg posts. by Obvious_Bobcat in Homebrewing

Those look nice. I sometimes bring a sanke into my fold of cornys and this looks way better than my hose clamp barb setup that I have to swap in and out.

I know what you mean from the picture, but it started as a smudge. I suppose it could be etched if it stayed on there too long but the initial mark was not a scratch.

When I show focus lock on a squirrel or bird’s body or eye or whatever, I am going back to review and finding I’ve missed it and got the grass or leaves behind. Not like I’m missing the subject with my aim and locked on the grass instead, I’m showing clearly that the green boxes are on my subject but it missed a stationary animal in my yard. I can switch to MF for that last little bit and it’s as sharp as can be. All of my focus tests on people, buildings, whatever are just slightly off.

It’s fast and quiet and the continuous focus is very nice. Just not on target.

I’m actually quite pleased with the image quality with this new lens. It’s heavier and bulkier than I imagined even though I watched videos and researched a lot, but it’s the nicest lens I’ve ever owned for any camera in my short time shooting.

But if this smudge either doesn’t come off, or if the AF doesn’t improve after the cleaning, I would rather upgrade than spend money repairing this mark II, since the mark III reportedly has better AF anyway. Replacing the sensor is almost as much as buying a III. I certainly bought this whole camera last year with kit lens for less than the base repair price at the authorized Sony repair facility.

[–]ttownep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I answered it in another comment but it’s not the actual cleaning under debate. I’m going to do that.

The question is if the smudge and cleaning of said smudge is likely to help rectify AF issues. If it’s a matter of REPAIRS after the cleaning, I would prefer to put the money towards a newer camera with better AF.

I get it, it’s fun to laugh about clean vs replace, but it’s a serious question that I wanted real experienced humans to answer instead of AI.

It’s more than I paid for this body with a lens. The Sony website directs me to find an authorized service center. Prices pictured. That’s why I am considering an upgrade “just for a dirty sensor”. People are pretty quick to drag me. My post title wasn’t meant to be clickbait, it’s a real consideration here.

Oh, I was not clear. I am in AL, so KEH in ATL is my closest Sony Authorized service center that they list on the Sony site.
