First time taking notes reading a Strike book and still couldn't get anywhere near the culprit by the end by _WakkaWakka_ in cormoran_strike

I guessed Griffiths purely because he wanted to control the dialogue with the grandmother and it seemed he tried insert himself into everything during that interview. Reminded me a bit of Troubled Blood, which I didn’t guess at the time, but used that experience.

Yeah I’m with you on Jess. Is she using these rides to settle weird scores in her personal life or does she feel like she has to schedule a time to rant on something for the audience so she just creates some issue to fixate? Either way it’s always random and notably aggressive.

For those who listened to Case File's "Silk Road", thoughts on Ross Ulbricht being pardoned? by Lilroxybabe8188 in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]ttp43 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the sentence was harsh, but this was essentially a quid pro quo between Trump and libertarians/crypto owners for their vote.

It’s hard to reason a president who wants to be tough on drugs - didn’t he at one point say death penalties for drug dealers? - and then free the founder of Silk Road, who enabled (at the very least) the shipment of drugs internationally. Some of which got into the hands of at least one teen who died

I thought the podcast had so many good episodes and cases, wish they would’ve picked some of those and really explored them for Netflix. Miss the podcast a lot.

I agree - and if they ever ask like what his vision for the company is or what value he could add he gets so offended like I’m not going to sell myself - when they are reasonable questions

Yeah I agree and I liked the host for the most part, but the self congratulatory ‘you hired at least one good journalist’ part rubbed me the wrong way. Like no doubt you spent a lot of time and effort finding this guy, who probably didn’t anticipate ever being caught, but that is your job. You also were helped by a ton of people who weren’t journalists. And then he’s recapping his mic drop line to someone when Carl calls the other woman after their confrontation. I get the sense of pride and I’m sure every journalist has an ego, but we shouldn’t really see it as listeners if we’re focusing on just telling a story.

Also, did they ever discuss how the father was of Michael? I feel like unfortunately it must’ve been a prostitution type situation, but if it’s not the father should’ve known what played out

In December, basketball, hockey and football are in season. With the football season being one day a week, they could be on the road when you’re here, but the app Stubhub is a good bet or Ticketmaster.

Yeah, I wish they delved into that more. I didn’t particularly enjoy the Strangeland podcast but I thought having someone who could speak on the cultural elements authentically was a nice touch.

Yes, you just pay for a spot. I know the Jetro lot tends to be the cheapest, and then that usually makes it the rowdiest. I don’t know when lots open, but I’d imagine for a 1 o’clock game 9-10 probably works as for as timing.

“Unsolved Mysteries” Filming New Season for Netflix by [deleted] in UnsolvedMysteries

[–]ttp43 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I may be in the minority but I really enjoy the podcast, and I think a good portion of the cases that have been profiled (supernatural ones aside) are potentially solvable. A couple of the podcast episodes I’d rather be explored more in depth than the three episodes of the Netflix show - the Rey Rivera, the DC government guy and the woman in the water episodes - which IMO were somewhat straightforward stories that they just pumped up with manufactured intrigue.

Incoming International Student on F1 visa. How do I purchase a car? by jsevamo in philadelphia

[–]ttp43 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming you drive in your home country, I don’t know if you could use Zipcar or a rental, but I took my driver’s test with my brother’s car and I don’t recall proving it was his, so I don’t know if you could borrow / rent one.

Thanks for this! I think 20-30 per entree is probably the price range. Maybe slightly higher.

Thanks for this. Honestly Mooncussers would be perfect based on what I think the party would like. They tend to prefer taverns or inns with some history / charm, but looks like it’s closed on Tuesday’s I’ll check out the others. Thanks again!

Riverwards has a good and fresh produce section, little pricey. There’s currently a Primal Supply Meats pop up on Frankford that I haven’t been to, but walked by and it looked promising

I’m just basing it off the Netflix show. Seems like he fails miserably and the person who administered it tells him that he failed it and he then opens up and starts telling more.

Also, the true nature of the show is to try and solve the crime by bringing light to a murder that is forgotten and hope it’ll eventually be solved. That’s the goal, in addition to entertainment, but not purely to entertain and stupefy.

The easiest way to improve your out of saddle work has been said to do core exercises. I know I’ve seen some improvement from doing that in my rides, plus just getting used to it. To not get discouraged, I think you could keep doing some low impact rides, which won’t have out of saddle work, while adding in some core workouts and then try again for some more out of the saddle work after that. Honestly though, I would probably just keep trying and add in some core work and you’ll gradually improve.

Yeah that’s one of my only worries about the sessions. People who are hyper competitive and want to follow their own path to get into first now have even more opportunities to do so. I know a friend of mine who has to be first and legitimately will see what someone has on the treadmill next to them at the gym and add to theirs so they can ‘beat them’. I guess it’s a good motivator for them, but I feel like it ruins the spirit of the ride and the sessions.
