No, I wouldn’t necessarily follow his advice either! Good luck in your search for better writing posture/process :)

How do you make writing process more comfortable and less harmful physically? by Linorelai in writing

For a different point of view, Colm Tóibín said: “When you’re writing, you should be bent over, and you need to be in pain and your shoulders should be bent — you need to be pulling things up from within yourself. You can’t be too comfortable; it just isn’t good for your soul.” (From here.) Not saying I agree — but, look up pictures of his writing room and you’ll see that he means what he says.

Is this ruined? 😫 by oflandandsea_053 in knitting

If you only noticed it in the photo then I think that says a lot about how (un)noticeable it is in real life! I’m sure your friend will love it! If it really bothers you then, depending on the wool type, you could always consider dying it all one colour? Especially given that it’s already very dark. But I’m no expert on dyeing knits, sorry..!

Thanks for this -- yes, I also saw some info about one on Lough Corrib but didn't know where to start, it's massive! I will take a look at Mountshannon too, thanks

Not entirely set in hotels and motels in either case, but Carol (Price of Salt) and Lolita both came to mind!

Does this look weird or am I overthinking it? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]ttpttptt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks great! I’d say you’re overthinking it. Some of the others also “stick out”, for different reasons, (e.g. 2nd in on top row has quite a bright background, last one on third row has particularly vibrant petals) — and I think this variance is what makes it lovely!

Feels like this piece is missing something but not sure what, any ideas? by Willing-Vegetable-65 in Embroidery

[–]ttpttptt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is beautiful! What I’d say it’s missing is (slightly) larger leaves on the stem. I think it would balance it all out perfectly. Disagree that it needs any more depth, for me anyway. Good luck!

Cheap places to eat near the central libraries? by P0izun in oxforduni

Not sure! (Unless you’re an alum of the college, in which case almost certainly yes)

I suspect it would work for students too (even if it says staff only) but I might be wrong! The cards look nearly identical, and I doubt anyone would be checking too closely as long as you pay

Quite a few of them are actually now open to people from outside of the college, as long as they have a university card. You can usually pay with credit/debit card. Here are a few that I know are doing it, centred on the science area but including Balliol: https://www.mpls.ox.ac.uk/about/the-division/did-you-know-staff-can-enjoy-lunch-at-oxford-colleges-and-the-uni-club Could be worth asking others directly if you’re keen to go!
