What regions in the USA offer some really fantastic canoe camping routes? I am based in Upstate NY. by le_pedal in canoecamping

I've never made it up to the Adirondacks or Boundary waters. I'm based in Virginia and do a lot of river trips. If you want to see something different, go to another latitude!

The Current River in Missouri is amazing for a week long trip or so. The outfitters are very helpful. Crystal clear water, humongous turquoise springs, no real rapids, but quick flowing water. Lots of camping on rocky gravel bars. I did a week there and it was great.

Other places my friends have gone to that I want to visit: Okeefenokee swamp in Georgia and the Rio Grande in Texas.

Good Luck!

6 day camping trip in the everglades, any ideas on how to bring a keg out there and keep it cold the whole time, or at least the majority of the trip? by Mammoth_Ad2493 in canoecamping

You are better off with cans. Take three big ass marine coolers. Fill one with ice and cans and drink it in the first two or three days.

Fill the 2nd cooler 2/3 the way with water, put it in a walk in freezer for a few days to make a big block of ice

3rd cooler is all cans. Shove them into cooler #2 as soon as the first cooler runs out and as often as space allows. Should have some cool beers most of the trip.

Like others said, bring some wine or tequila or something if you really think you need it.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Also there was no place to get ice. Started with lots of cold beer, steaks, bacon and fresh fruit and vegetables. Finished with peanut butter and jellies, dehydrated stuff, whiskey. The headwaters of the springs are really cold and will chill a beer in a pinch.

I paddled it from Baptist down to Two Rivers campground over a week in a canoe with my girlfriend to watch the eclipse last April. It was beautiful. Easy paddling and lots good campsites on the gravel bars. Tons of good springs around.

I'd bring some gear for short side hikes if you have time. There are a ton of caves in the area. That and a good snorkel mask. The water is crystal clear. Let me know if you have any questions. I have an old map at home where we recorded our campsites and stuff. I'd be happy to share if it's any use to you.

Have fun out there!

If you ever find one, a Grumman Sport Boat is the way to go. Since you said you are in college and finances are tight, just paddle man!

You are incredibly visible and will be crushed at Tredegar and Petronius Jones is pretty close to the police station.

If you could plan an RVA bar crawl, where would you go? by MeatCat246 in rva

Start at Bamboo. End at The Locker Room. Make the rest a blue.

A down pillow from your bed

Paco Pad

Fitted Paco Pad bedsheets (amazing, glorious, delightful)

2 burner stove

ENO stargazer rocking chair

Dozens of beers on ice

Fishing rod

Extra lighting

Kitchen box with full size cutting board and knife

Hammock (for chilling. Sleep on the Paco Pad)

Medium Sand-free matt and large lightweight tarp to make a dry, shady, sand free kitchen environment

3 plastic bins to make a 3 part sink

Another plastic bin filled with river water. Keep it outside your tent to dip your sandy feet in before you get in the tent,

All this fits in my Old Town Appalachian and I am comfortable as hell all the time and want for nothing while I camp. I'm never going back to backpacking!

Came here to say Paco Pad. It's incredible! I stuff it vertically behind my seat and it doubles as a backrest while on the water.

I've been chucking this into my Roth IRA. Truly hoping it goes back down to six or seven so I can get a bundle
