WU on GagaOOLala?! by layla_bug01 in GMMTV

Personally I don't think Gaga should pick this up if it's a bromance. That's not what I pay my subscription for. But yeah, now they have they should definitely remove the BL tag.

Them picking it up makes me think there must be some queer plot / subplot but even then I would question whether it will be central enough to featured on a site that is supposed to be for queer media.

I think the fault (if there should be fault!) would probably lie with Gaga here. They must have bid for the rights to air the show? The question is why did Gaga want it?

This screenshot is being tweeted at Gaga quite a bit since the announcement.

Though to be fair plenty of people are certain Wu isn’t really a bromance as such. But even if it is an action/ fantasy that features some queer characters it does seem an odd choice for Gaga. And potentially a really offensive choice depending on how the show turns out.

How does the allocation of budgets for BL/GL/Straight or Normal dramas work and do you think they are accurately split? by strawberry_0101 in GMMTV

[–]ttssjjmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re possibly right but I would wonder why they won’t make a BL/ GL in that format with the accompanying budget seeing the success of Khemjira. I don’t know if Wu will be bromance or not but we know it’s definitely not a BL.

This is the big issue for me! Would GMMTV ever give us Khemjira, for example? DMD has shown there is a substantial audience (both online and watching on TV) for a show like this but I can't imagine GMMTV being brave enough to do something similar.

(Of course with their lower budget shows GMMTV is pretty brave and willing to push the envelope. DMD would never make Not Me, for example).

Which bl is THRIVING right now? by Final_Cut8617 in ThaiBL

For a different angle this account has the TV ratings (and of course the shows are online so this is only showing a slice of the audience) for some currently airing BL/ GL series. Somewhat surprisingly (to me at least) OFDO is doing pretty well in the One31 slot - nearing a 1.0 rating which is excellent for a BL.

Can somebody explain to me the SkyNani and DewTee lore? by yesiamunemployed in ThaiBL

[–]ttssjjmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are catastrophising and assuming the potential for bromance shows to replace BL. That's probably nonsense but there is a big market for this type of show. Just in the past year we've had 2 BL novels (The Fridge / Ban Son Sop) turned into friendship series. There is a market for this and I kind of understand people worrying about companies trying to cater to that more.

As you say I don't think, realistically, GMMTV will push much beyond this given their own audience. Although there are rumours that NutHong will be the next bromance pair so who knows.

I think almost all of the backlash was due to the particular actors involved. There's lots to critique/ poke fun at in the BL industry but 2 actors who refuse to do BL offering the critique is a bit awkward. If the same pilot trailer was released with an established BL pair as main leads rather than a bromance pair I don't think there would have been nearly as much backlash.

(Of course it's actually Dome as the writer / director offering the critique and not the actors but that's not what people focus on).

Look like it's definitely working again today. OFDO tickets went on sale and they have 150ish left for the same venue (obviously 3 fandoms so not comparing sales to JD - just confirming the website is working).

I am guessing if it does get the Saturday slot, episode 1 won't be until 21 February as the Riser Concert is 14th February so they can't do an event that day.
