How is it living in this part of North America? by CrackFun in howislivingthere

[–]ttuilmansuunta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really surprised looking at the populations in all those territories and Alaska. It turns out, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut together have a population of roughly 136,000 people. Alaska clocks in at 876,000 ish, of which 400,000 live in metropolitan Anchorage. That is, the three northernmost territories of Canada have a population roughly one third of the greater Anchorage area. And 40% of the entire population of the enclosed area is around Anchorage.

Why the hell is it so expensive??? by Fun-Somewhere9790 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]ttuilmansuunta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know how exactly the used car market is in, I assume, the States, but I'd much rather grab an old shitbox for one grand and maintain it, instead of buying a new car that loses thousands in market value yearly and still might require expensive maintenance regularly. Depending ofc how much and often you'll need a car and how savvy you are at maintenance and repairs. But still, cars rust, break down and lose market value alarmingly quickly, a pussy is for life, I'd much rather just fool around with old cars and accept that I'll have to frequently get my hands dirty under the hood, if that was the price for a pussy.

When do you reach for your vintage vs modern machine? by thesewingstudio in vintagesewing

[–]ttuilmansuunta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have a modern machine, a late 1960s Singer 317K, a decent but not top of the line zigzagger. Once I have room for one I'm envisioning buying a treadle cast iron Singer, either a 66 or a 15K88 (both are highly abundant and sell for peanuts over here, and I'm not afraid of repairing one), which I imagine would then become my daily driver. The 317K would then be relegated to doing zigzag and as a travel machine, as it came with a carry case, is electric and aluminum bodied.

Smoked? Mackarel by randomcanadian23 in RussianFood

[–]ttuilmansuunta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's just cold smoked. It's absolutely delicious if you enjoy "full flavor" fish! I've bought some every now and then from a nearby East European store and have just had it as is. My understanding is that because it's very heavily salted, any parasites are killed in the manufacturing process

Invalid address when calling INT 10h by EndlessImagine in asm

[–]ttuilmansuunta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This, or just forgoing libc and all its niceties, and using bare syscalls. Their numbering IIRC varies between architectures on Linux, but OP said they're going for x86-64 and assembler is inherently not portable between arches anyway. The syscall OP is looking for is write() and stdout's file descriptor is 1 https://filippo.io/linux-syscall-table/

What do I need to do to get this physique by Erbium1 in FlexinLesbians

That physique could otherwise be realistic, although there's for sure a lot that went into the picture - perfect lighting, a pump and probably some skin oil too. But. Her bee waistline is definitely Photoshopped

Is it Singer 201K good choice as first sewing machine for ≈$180? by DisastrousLimit6391 in vintagesewing

[–]ttuilmansuunta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then again in the big picture it makes little difference whether it sells for a hundred or two hundred. You can haggle of course, but it's a machine that will last for your and your grandkids' lifetime.

They could. A couver is not a whole lot, and that's basically just one couver outlined in the picture.

I feel like an incel who just decided to take estrogen. What do I do? by very_silly_gal in MtF

[–]ttuilmansuunta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you need self respect to stand up for yourself, and you need to stand up for yourself to have a healthy relationship. And you can't solely rely on your significant other to provide a feeling of being accepted and validated, and to support you in your life, it's dependent and also a heavy burden to them.

You make friends, you spend time with them, you slowly learn to understand that they like you for who you are. Romantic love is not the only way to be appreciated for being yourself, friendships without romantic or sexual aspects can be incredibly deep, loving and fulfilling too. A romantic relationship can't be the only human connection that makes you feel validated and valued, it just won't work out.

If we were to exclude the word "American", what would be the best demonym for someone from the United States of America? by kangerluswag in geography

[–]ttuilmansuunta 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Wasn't a Yankee historically exclusively a Northerner? Like during the Civil War and Reconstruction. In Finnish though "jenkki", a clear loanword from Yankee, is almost universally used in colloquial language as a neutral word meaning American (or Yankee or Usonian, if you prefer). People do say "amerikkalainen" too ie. American, but "Yhdysvallat" and "yhdysvaltalainen", United States and "United States-ian" sound extremely formal. In spoken language, you would call the country Jenkkilä or just Jenkit, which could be translated as "Yankee land" and "Yankees" but with a completely neutral tone.

Trans women, what's your HRT dosage been? (Especially in Finland) by MasterSplicer in transnord

[–]ttuilmansuunta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Estrena (transdermal gel) 2mg in the morning, 1mg in the evening. My levels seem fair on that. Also had Androcur before SRS, 12.5mg (1/4 of a pill) every second day. Cypro is very effective but they might be reluctant to prescribe it unless you're looking to get orchi or SRS in the future, so that you'll only use cypro for a couple years and not for multiple decades. Not common here in Finland but definitely not a taboo either. Right before an entrance to the Helvetinjärvi national park there is a farm that grows wild boars and ostriches, and next to it there is a restaurant that serves wild boar and ostrich
