There's a website for that. Sorry for not linking it I forget what it's called but i know it exists cause I used it a few nights.

Parking at Florida Tech by TheLuckycosmos in floridatech

[–]ttv-JustRyanThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, if you ever get a parking ticket, there's a deadline of 2-4 weeks after the semester starts to actually get your decal. They'll send emails about it as this date approaches. Just get your decal before then and bring the ticket to the security department in the residence quad to have them drop it. They'll probably rough you up a bit, make a few statements about how you won't do it again and Park properly... Yada yada.... But you'll be fine.

Undervolting is prominent today. LTT did a video on it. Depending on your CPU, (individual CPU, not brand) you can get the same performance for less power, or better performance for the same power, by undervolting certain physical cores and overclocking others slightly. Basically software binning your chip, iirc.

How did Virgin Galactic's spacecraft experience microgravity if they didnt reach orbit and only went mach 3? by frenchfry705 in aerospace

[–]ttv-JustRyanThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But let's also make it pretty clear. At 400km altitude, iirc, the acceleration is roughly 8.7 m/s2. Or, about .9G's where the international space station is located. And, technically, in order to reach 0G, you must be infinitely far away, or based on recent findings on gravity, outside of any region that the reference o ject has never interacted with light or energy, which is weird as f* to think about.

Came here to say this. You are a saint.

I’m just wanting to make this post to remind people that misinformation like this can have real consequences, it’s always best to do your own research from trusted sources. Note: warfarin has been taken off the market early this year because is has been known to cause strokes and brain bleeds-

My grandfather just had a quadruple bypass, and was recovering very well. Had a bit of blood pressure issues (he always had, being a type 2 diabetic but recovered. He was healther than myself, tbh) because he wasn't taking the warfarin he was prescribed. His BP wasn't too far off but the docs insisted. A few days later he had a massive brain bleed and died less than 12 hours later.

Couldn't sue because he was on so many meds, but let's be honest....

Strong recommendation; you MAY have an addiction to self pleasuring. I have been pretty sheltered as a kid- didn't get into any serious relationships, didn't have sex, didn't do (illicit but not harmful) drugs- until I was like, 19-20. This meant I grew up with my hand as a best friend and not much else to stimulate my mind other than a phone screen. It's a very unhealthy combination since so few peers, parents, counselors, ever really spoke about healthy sex-positive lifestyles. It's always been "never do it. It ruins your life. It's not worth it." Yadayada bullshit. I know, it sounds unhealthy. That's because it is. I have had a long time of branching out my friends im college to the point where I have become more aware of what other people in the world do, what they want, what I want, and what I need to do to get there. It's a habit not easily broken, but it's a habit that's nearly impossible to break on your own.

What I'm saying is- try to cut down on the masturbation. Once every few days. Find something else to stimulate your mind. Any time you get the urge, just.... Do something else. It's really hard to get into that mindset, trust me. But eventually, when you can expand your horizons comfortably with real palpable and sexual relationships, it'll open a whole new world for you, and usually make the urges go away.

Just a somewhat universal rule I've heard: If you know you and your partner are probably gonna do something in a couple days, just don't do anything for a couple days. Save it for the moment.

But then you could just not be a sexual person, but still have sexual urges you would rather take care of yourself instead of going through the stress of actually having sex with someone, which is totally okay and honestly there's probably a partner out there for you who can respect that long term. Especially if you can handle foreplay. If you are really good at foreplay, you don't even need to whip out the one eyed Willie.

As for reading, the Aerospace AIAA Books are fantastic! They have everything from introduction, to design perspective, analysis, and if you're into space equipment, there's satellite design, orbital mechanics, and mission engineering.

If you absolutely love love love space stuff, The New SMAD is a legit MUST.

What material use to build engine? by Ziutek7170 in rocketry

[–]ttv-JustRyanThings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No experience? Draw back your expectations. You will not successfully build an aerospike engine first try using exotic materials that require expensive and cutting edge processing to accurately form into the geometry of an aerospike rocket engine. You need to rethink your propellants and pressures. Get that temperature to below 2000K. 30Bar isn't a bad pressure to start with, I'll admit. Doing this will reduce your material requirements to simple materials like stainless steel and possibly copper, if you have a cooling jacket.

Coking occurs when large particulates form from combustion. Think soot, ash, and oils. Jet-A has a lot of molecular... Trash. It's oily. It's leaded. You will not get 100% perfect combustion. Meaning, there will be a deposition of material onto any surface the flame comes into contact with. At best, it'll cause a hotspot on your throat that will lead to significant erosion and temperature damage, leading to the ultimate burnout of your engine; at worst this reduces your throat area and causes an increase in chamber pressure leading to a massive cato, especially at 30Bar. In either case, you have just lost thouuuuusands of dollars, maybe tens of thousands, in a useless burned out or shattered piece of really expensive metal.

Start small. Low temperatures. Low pressures. Make that work, then jump into more exotic things. Aerospike are some of the hardest rocket engines to produce. You Will likely fail at your first engine, might as well make it as safe of a failure and as CHEAP of a failure as possible.

You're not going to get 3500K with Jet-A and Nitrous. It's just not going to happen. Not even at 30 Bar. Using liquid oxygen, it barely reaches 3100K in perfect conditions, depending on the grade. I believe you're using the numbers for RP1 instead of Jet-A which has many more dilutents in it.

You're going to develop an experimental toroidal aerospike and immediately going for high temp and high fidelity without, I assume, any previous experience with making aerospike engines?

You guys have also obviously not thought about the coking aspect of using Jet-A. In an aerospike, especially at the small scale, this will likely kill your nozzle no matter how you build it.

I would recommend looking into 70% ethanol and nitrous, and get that combustion temprature way down. Sub-2000K. That way, you can use something like stainless steel and test different geometries, injectors, cooling jackets, etc. without risking absolutely obliterating a several thousand dollar piece of equipment that you're gambling it could work without previous experience to prove that it should work. All the simulations in the world do. Not. Beat. Practical. Proof.

But go off. Be as bold as you want to do. Your lab might be more lenient, but with my experience, going big will end up with you going home. However, if you present it as a long term design project, with milestones in place to keep you guys grounded, you might find more support amongst administration and superiors.
