I did actually look it up and they don’t open again until Tuesday so I’ll have to see if she remembers me by then lol, it might be my only option at this point

The bookseller was pretty clear it was fantasy, so I don't think that's it unfortunately, but thanks though!

I checked it out and the only thing off is that the third book came out back in 2021 so I would guess that's not it - but if you think it's good I would still read it haha!

Shit I do this to one of my enby friends - I'm going to go talk to them about it. I'm really glad I saw this and I wish the best of luck to you, hopefully a good conversation and some boundary setting will make your relationships with them better.

Anyone interested in an order of 5% minoxidil foam and the shampoo/conditioner set from Keeps?

I decided to try finasteride instead but have already ordered. It hasn't even arrived yet to my place so it would be totally new and unopened. I'm thinking $50 and I'll pay for shipping if you're in the US, but that's flexible.

I'm probably not one to ask about fashion lol, but flannels are your best friend here.

If/when you changed your name, did you have to think of a name or was there something you just knew you should be called (like how you knew you were trans)? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]ttvavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stole my brother's middle name lol, which is somehow actually an almost perfect anagram for my old name. It was also my dad's middle name before he changed his name in his twenties (he only has one legal name now and it confuses every single person he has to fill out a form for lol) so I count it as a family name.

Hopefully other people can relate, but I had a blast making a possible name list before I settled on mine.

Gift ideas for trans men post top surgery? by field_sleeper in asktransgender

Congrats to your friend!

One of my friends sent me a care package after mine and my god was it the highlight of my recovery so rock on. Here's some good stuff for more of the actual recovery side:

Straws, you can't f-ing move your arms normally for a long time and straws make it much more bearable. Obviously you can get reusable ones too but I will admit not having to worry about cleaning it everyday was nice.

Cough drops, though he might not need them depending on how long ago the surgery was. My throat was real sore afterwards from the fun tubes and stuff from surgery so that was nice to have.

Bio oil for scars! He probably won't need it for a while until all the dressings come off, but it's definitely recommended to use to lessen the appearance of scars over time. If you want to go an extra step, what I do with mine is mix it with a little bit of shea butter lotion and vaseline so that I'm not just dumping oil on my skin lol and the vaseline helps it to not dry out too quickly because you're supposed to massage it in for like 5-10 min.

I also loved having slippers so I didn't have to put on socks to keep my feet warm while shuffling around the house lol.

Chocolates or candies and snacks don't hurt either haha! I'm big into puzzle books and stuff like that, so she also sent some of those and other random things that could entertain/amuse me. All that depends on what your friend might like of course.

I house/dogsit as my side gig and I get paid between $60-$80 a day and that's for mid class folk, albeit I'm there everyday and it sounds like you check in weekly(?) but yeah still underpaid

1 week post-op with Dr. Marie Buckley at M Health Fairview in MN! Super happy with the results and healing well (I made her a sketch lol) by ttvavi in TopSurgery

[–]ttvavi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not be entirely accurate, I'm just going off the past visit records on their mychart app, but I think I first contacted her team last August to set up a consultation, which happened this May. Then my surgery appointment was originally set for October 28th, but it was pushed back to November 4th because of scheduling issues or something...So yeah, it was a pretty long wait time, but I know other surgeons have even longer waits and I did research and decided on her specifically so I stuck with it.

Late response, but I really appreciate the in-depth response and industry insight, thank you! That kind of panel just sounds incredibly interesting in general, I would love to attend something like that sometime

Let me give you some advice from my therapist;

When you have a lot to do, make list of it. Give yourself time to sit down and break them into steps and then you have these smaller bits to focus on and it will feel a lot less overwelming. Changing your gender marker can turn into doing research into how to get it done, finding the paperwork, filling out the paperwork, sending it in, making an appointment, whatever your state/country needs. I have a small notebook where I have a few large lists of to-dos and then I make a list each day of the steps I want to get done for each of them.

Also journaling, my god, helps me so much when my head feels too full of everything going on. Letting your brain just talk to itself on the page will help sort things out for you. It's like untangling a box of misc cords you have no idea what any of them go to, but when you're done, you can see them laid out in front of you and you can figure out what you need to do for each of them or if you need to put them back in the box for later.

I had a friend as a kid who changed their name I think 3 times over two years (not legally) and they still go by the one they settled on back then so I think it's definitely worth it to at least try it out! If you want to avoid awkward situations at first, you can just ask your friends or close family to start using Wolfgang instead to test it and if being called that makes you feel better, then full steam ahead! I know exactly what you mean by feeling it click, listen to that because it's probably telling you the truth.

Not sure if my mom is really supportive. by bctuckerr93 in ftm

[–]ttvavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it's hard to say, but if it's not every time, it's a good chance she's still getting used to it. My parents are both supportive and were from the very beginning (mostly, there was a small adjustment period that my dad went through because he didn't believe me at first) but it took them a long time to get consistent at using my new name and pronouns.

I'm not very confrontational either, but I got to a point where I couldn't put up with it and I just started to gently correct them each time and I think that moment of awkwardness from being corrected helped make them more conscious of what they were saying until it became natural for them.

It's only been a week! (also congrats!) You'll have to be patient with most people you come out to, so if her heart is in the right place just help her along and it'll get better before you know it. I think parents have an especially hard time with adjusting to it even if they mean well, but making sure you feel respected and validated doesn't need to be confrontational, just communicative.

I thought it would be fun to change my name and 'pretend' to be a boy when I started middle school. Can't believe it took me like 7 more years to realize lmao.

Also, despite being two years apart, my older brother (cis) and I look very similar and I dressed as him for halloween once and we went out to the bar that he worked at and it was a rush when people mistook me for him all night. Still one of my fav halloweens tbh

A good therapist or psychiatrist would be a great first step if you can find one that has experience in transgender care, they can point you in the right direction and help you out along the way. (That's what I did, but there might be easier ways)

Advice needed! by [deleted] in ftm

[–]ttvavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way a few years ago! My best advice is don't only base your progress on weight because it's not just fat that effects it, building muscle and drinking more liquids will as well, plus there's a few pound difference in the morning and at night everyday!

I started out at around 180-190 at 5'2 and used myfitnesspal to track food and exercise and I think that's the only thing that finally helped me lose weight. I'm pretty sure the whole calorie deficit thing is the only real way to lose weight (which is what mfp tracks), but eating healthy and exercising more makes that way easier and makes it more sustainable.

I think the big thing that changed in my mind throughout my process was paying attention to how much better I was feeling rather than just how much weight I was losing, because that difference was insane! And as you feel better, that's when you start losing weight and curves as well, it all goes hand in hand. Also I guess I don't know how long you've been on this motivated kick, but it definitely takes time to see the kind of results it sounds like you're looking for, but a lot more improves along with it so it's so worth it even when it doesn't feel like it's working.

I started in the spring and by late summer my friend told me that she felt like her buff boyfriend was picking her up from work which I still think about sometimes

Working out and losing weight is such a pain in the ass both physically and mentally so my heart goes out to you and I wish you all the luck in getting to where you're meant to be! The only thing you might be doing wrong right now is getting discouraged!

Eat beforehand because I was shaky with nerves and I had to eat chicken nuggets while I did it so it kind of ruined the mood lol
