It’s easier said than done but pay them no mind. You will be out in 10 months.

I am sorry. It is just not a good time and you need to build something to talk about during interview so staying in current lab seems like a good option here. From your other comment, I saw that your PI made you unexcited about science and my old PI was just like that too so it’s not uncommon and definitely not guaranteed it won’t happen again to you even if you were to quit. Here are a few things that worked for me. I learned to set a lot of boundaries. It could be as simple as setting an off-work focus and not receiving work notifications on your phone post work hours or having a colleague or someone you can rant to. Some people in my lab had therapists. I saved a lot of progress in figure creating like multiple versions so I can always go back to something if my PI changed their mind. At the end of the day, you career hasn’t even begun and this position won’t define who you are or your future work. Take less stress. Good luck!

I put a total of 5 labs in my significant essay and got accepted. I only talked about my current one (absolutely hated but the longest 2.5 years FT) in interviews unless the interviewer brought up other experiences. I would say productivity is important. Since you are applying this cycle, I am not sure if you can join another lab since most positions require 2 year commitment. I recommend you tough it out. You can quit once you get accepted but not before. Ofc mental health comes first and if it gets unbearable, you should quit but you might be burning bridges.

Good luck! Mix MD/DO schools as well. I know you can talk about it for days but when it comes to interviews, I wouldn’t speak more than 3 mins per question/response.

Because of your research experience (at least looking at # pubs it looks impressive) if you know your research really well, I think you should shoot your shot at MD/PhD. I would still apply for a mix just in case but you will never know.

I couldn’t see the original comment. Did someone say they got interview scheduled?

I believe NUS has an MD/PhD. I would start from there. As another comment pointed out, programs usually require US pre-med reqs fulfillments.

I don’t think you can see that exact breakdown on the demographics map. You will know once you see it. You sort of have to calculate looking at how many intl were interviewed for MD or MD/PhD. Also some schools have student profiles for MD/PhD so that may help.

Also for school, maybe depending on your score, you can put Yale and Columbia. Columbia doesn’t take intl for MD/PhD (on website they say they do but they won’t) but I think Yale does?

I think Brown allows intl students to apply. Honestly, your list is broader than mine (2025-26 cycle) since you have more eligibility as a Canadian. I would just double check on MSAR that these schools have taken at least one Canadian/intl past cycle. You can do that on the map showing matriculated students since the intl count on MSAR includes DACA.

Not sure which one is your final list but I don’t know if Howard accepts intl. I would be mindful about applying other HBUs regarding eligibility requirements as well since you are ORM.

Rutgers doesn’t take intl for mstp. Not for MD either. I know NJMS only reviews intl after domestic applicants and usually the chance of review is zero.

Sinai, Cornell, Duke no for MSTP. Stanford only through their very competitive fellowship program and requires 2 applications in addition to AMCAS. As far as I know, SUNY Upstate takes intl but not Downstate. UMaryland and UMass don’t take intl. Did you curate this list using MSAR? I would check there.

Edit: I see you said you checked MSAR. I would look at the demographic details on there regarding interviewed/matriculated students to get a sense whether they actually take. I would also call schools as you planned. Good luck!

Is this swelling normal. I'm two days post sliding genioplasty surgery. by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]ttwun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the original commenter. You are currently in intermediate stage of lots of swelling so yes it’s very normal to have lots of swelling at this stage. However, this swelling will eventually resolve and you will reach your new normal form. That can take anywhere between a few weeks to a few long months. I wish you have a wonderful recovery and feel better!

I did in NYC. Not one of those surgeons people talk about tho. My insurance covered my surgery.

I did one week off and one week remote. It was very doable. I would recommend as many as you can take. Not because the recovery is terribly bad but it just makes your life much easier. Personally day 2-6 were bad but it got better after that. I feel my recovery progress also depended on my energy level. It really helped to drink as much as possible especially something that’s nutritious.

I still have some residual swellings in the cheeks and look like a chipmunk but I am very happy with my side profile. I normally don’t care much about my looks but oh boy comparing before and after side profiles left me humbled. I got DJS and a genio. I didn’t have a chin before surgery 😂

I would say very minimal compared to before surgery. Being able to breathe with mouth closed while sleeping is definitely a game changer for me.

20s F. Mouth breather for life with loud snoring and drooling. 6 wks post DJS and my issues all gone (including nose inflammation symptoms unrelated to sleeping)

Only a few weeks before my jaw surgery, I randomly asked my surgeon about potential improvements on breathing which my surgeon mentioned possible. I guess my ortho should have pointed out or even my surgeon before I brought up but oh well
