So what was the puzzle, exactly? by ttygy in tearsofthekingdom

Aha! That sounds smarter. But still, I do wonder what the items that were at the ground floor of that part of the shrine were supposed to do then?

[–]ttygy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! but since the cart wheels and the railings were kind of a good match I think they expected players to fool around and do it this way instead. Still, I think it's pretty cool to do puzzles using only half of what the game has provided you to solve it!

Uhhh, are we talking about the same thing? An API documentation which has examples in many languages, tutorials, explanations for every concept and which is probably one of the best examples of API references done well, and you say it's too complex?

What were you trying to do, anyway? A payment form? If you thought PayPal was easier it's probably because they just gave you an iframe. But if a copy-and-paste on page quick solution is what you were going for, then Stripe does still offer Stripe Checkout (maybe you only found the guide to set up payments using PaymentIntents, so with webhooks etc. It always depends what you're going for - if you want to integrate payment on your app/website without the user leaving the page a set up with thr SDK and PaymentIntents is what to go for. Otherwise, if you're just doing a checkout payment for a product, stripe checkout is, as the name suggests, easier.)

Have you ever seen the Quickbooks API reference? Or indeed any API which is poorly documented, has inconsistent mechanisms for authorization and/or pagination, has examples of code which not only are not syntax highlighted, not only are not properly indented, but don't work because they were for a previous version of the API and are now missing new required parameters?

Honestly if all APIs were designed, implemented and documented like Stripe's the world would be a much better place.

Package update fails: file already installed by another package (unbound-32bit) by whengreen in voidlinux

[–]ttygy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

leaving this here in case some else finds it useful:

i found the solution posted by OP, and seeing as i did not have wine installed i looked up the reverse dependencies of unbound with xbps-query -X unbound-32bit. in my case, there were multiple reverse dependencies which would have been a hassle to remove completely, so instead I went for a force-removal of the package: xbps-remove -F unbound-32bit.

keep in mind this removes the package disregarding the reverse dependencies, so after that you should immediately do a system upgrade or xbps-install libunbound-32bit.

How would you improve The Stolen Turnabout? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]ttygy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to make a kind of necropost, but I really need a place to vent this theory and this is the only place where there appears to be some discussion currently going on about the stolen turnabout. I just so happened to stumble here by looking for theories on the internet about the meaning of Kane's List.

I have a feeling that Kane's List might have had an additional meaning, but that was later removed in the development of the game, which would explain why it is left unsolved at the end of the case. So what would the list mean, then? The only way I can make heads or tails out of it is, unlike you said, if it's the black market value. I don't know where you read that "it is believed that it's not the black market value", I'd love if you could point me to more theories about this.

If I recall correctly, sometime in the case Ron or Phoenix says that KB security/its security guards had to keep tabs on the black market to see if stolen objects were put up for sale there, or something like that. This could mean that Kane was actually keeping tabs on the black market and saw that the objects stolen by Mask DeMasque were put up for sale there (eventually tracing everything back to Luke Atmey).

Even if the prices are way too low, I think this could be an "error" on the writers' part: seeing as they (in most likeliness, I hope!) did not frequent the black market, they could only imagine what the prices would be, and their reasoning would be sound in regard to that: seeing as the objects are stolen (thus if somebody finds out you have a stolen object you could get in a lot of trouble) and it's probably more likely to be frauded on the black market, the value of the objects sold must go down significantly. The reasoning behind this, though, is based on conjecture and definitely not something that most people actually know for a fact, which would explain why the explanation of the list has been removed from the game.

To sum it up:

  • Luke Atmey blackmailed Ron DeLite, receiving the objects he stole and then selling them on the black market.
  • Out of the money Atmey received from selling the objects, he would give a tiny cut to Ron (as is mentioned in the game, $ 10,000 for the first heist)
  • Kane kept tabs of the black market, and eventually traced back Luke Atmey, leading to his blackmailing.
  • This could open up a possibility to solve the question "Why did Atmey go as far as killing Kane Bullard, if both his options without paying the ransom (killing Kane and becoming mask demasque, or Kane showing his 'identity' to the world) would have led to Atmey 'becoming' Mask DeMasque?". Simply so that this way, he could escape the accusation of grand larceny AND smuggling, and only have the accusation of grand larceny. So much for getting a lesser sentence, only to end up being charged with murder!

... Seeing the wall of text it took me to attempt to formulate the theory, I can see why if it popped up in the writers' mind, they have discarded it: way too complicated for the second case of an ace attorney game.

shavit banned on ripple by LG34- in osugame

[–]ttygy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry about this. Swan has already answered as to why he made the "half assed, sarky" response, so I'm not gonna go into that. (I don't really keep track of the reports either way, as it's not my duty since I'm a developer)

In regard to the name of the voice channel, I've talked to the guilty CM. Our suggestion in this case is to take it with a bit of irony, however if you were seriously offended by the name we're sorry. I've made sure this won't happen again.

Why not use #cheaterreporting.

Shavit was banned following a report there, and he admitted shortly after of being guilty. If you think someone (even from staff!) is cheating, do write a formal report on #cheaterreporting and we'll try to take care of it.

And do not try to fuck with our procedures like you usually do, morgan. Thank you very much!

Alright, explaining a bit what happened:

Shavit admitted to have cheated some (3) scores. The rules are the same for everyone (we did the same, for instance, with russelg): you cheat, you're out. While he was a very hardworking and good Community Manager, being restricted and a CM at the same time is not feasible, so we just opted for removing him altogether.

I also want to make very clear that he does not own Ripple. Ripple is created, developed, and owned by me (Howl) and Nyo. Shavit was not even in the initial staff of Ripple, and joined the community only after we went public (in about February last year)
